Is CCS the only place to get one off boards made?
« on: January 02, 2024, 03:20:09 PM »
Working on a little project thats too small to use a legit woodshop (12 decks total, 3 graphics) and I was wondering if CCS is the best option for something like this? has anyone used them or boardpusher before? any other less sus options? I live in canada but cant use control. Board are just going to be wall hangers. Thanks!

Drifter Skateboard manufacturing was doing one offs and small batch specials over the holidays.  Worth a look into still.

Really good boards (if any end up not being wall hangers) and excellent graphic printing.

Zazzle / I think has someone else make their orders, but idk who.

Point distribution
Customskateboards.com
Boardpusher
Skateshred

A single custom deck from drifter is 60$ and 20 decks is the minimum for whole sale pricing.

Ccs might work out to be the lowest when considering low qty and free shipping.

CCS can do wholesale/bulk pricing, but I'm not sure what the minimums would be. Probably more than a dozen. It wouldn't hurt to send an email to their customer service with what you want and ask for the "Customs" department to give you a price quote.

The graphics quality is great if you are using high-res imagery, as good as any brand using heat transfers, but the boards are the same Chinese wood as their generic decks. Not bad for a beginner or non-discerning skater (and great for wall hangers). I'd be shocked if any other custom board printers are using better wood than CCS.
Warm Up Zone. Let's watch some skateboarding videos.

Woodchuck laminates I believe has(had) a $450 20 graphic deck order. I like their wood well enough. Pretty similar to a Baker mellow mold.

For a lot of these sort of things, the setup cost is the biggest part with the graphics if they are more a full board / photo type deal that I have seen.

Not to say that someone somewhere couldn't easily do something more, for less initial cost, but heat transfers are the most common for anything other than a really simple graphic.

Another option I have seen done as wall hangers is a vinyl sticker that covers the whole board.  Might seem a bit weird all up, but it worked for someone I know who did up special birthday boards for his friends, just a one off type of deal.

Is your graphic a photo or similar, family pic or something very specific to you, or could it be something that others might think is really cool too, so you could cover your minimums with teeing up others to get a set of the boards as well?

Just a thought anyway.

Curious to hear how you go and what the total costs are / what the boards look like.

Is crazy how easy you have it in the US
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Check out Baltimore Board Brewery... they use South Central wood, and have twins as well!

I ordered a custom board using CCS and the quality of the print was pretty good.  (Actually skated the board, and quality of the wood was good enough) The colors were a little off.  For example, my graphic was mostly black and Orange.  The orange was a little dull on the printed board.  I'm thinking that's because there's no white ink laid down prior to printing the orange? Anyways, that was my experience.  Hope that is helpful.

How did you go with your project, or is it too soon to ask?

They are in production! ended up using olive out of calgary. I emailed a bunch of places suggested and Olive was down for a small order (ended up doing 23 boards) so I went with them to keep it Canadian. With shipping its gonna be around 55 CAD /deck but they also press their own boards so it seems reasonable. Ill throw up some pics whenever I get them, probably in a month or so!

Too late for this one, I know, but I saw this come up today and thought it would be worth adding here in case anyone else wanted to do their own small run of boards.

USA based, just in case anyone was not sure.
