What was your best setup of 2023
« on: February 23, 2024, 09:09:52 AM »
Curious what your best setup was last year.
You can also include things like your weight (if you’re comfortable), height, shoe size, and terrain of choice.
Mine was:
Real 8.12 true fit
Thunder light 148 ( stock)
Jessup
Shake Junt 7/8 allen
Cones Wheels Demolition Formula 56mm
Quantum Metallics
Blazer mid size 11 (US)
Height 5’9”
Weight 155 lbs
Terrain mostly curbs, ledges, small transition.

high quality pics

8.5 Girl G053, Indy 159 hollow, Ace hard bottom bushing, Indy hard top bushing, SF Lock In Full 55mm, Bones Swiss Six, and Pepper Grip.

6’3
240 lbs
Size 14 NB# 480 or Dunks

I just cruise around smooth surfaces while tossing in the occasional no comply. The bushings are the real star. My big ass can’t make them wheel bite and the turning is still excellent. My trucks are stable and surfy 🏄🏾

8.0 Circle Pit logo deck (Drifter pressed)
Venture Chandler Burton V Hollows (stock)
Bones X99s V5 53mm
Quantum Isotopes
Shorty's Black Magic

Skated with Es Quattro Plus and NB# 808s

I skate mostly ledges and some flat.

Chocolate G096, 8.5"
Indy Mids - 149s
54mm OJ Elites 101a
Pepper grip
Rowans or One Stars
Mix-matched bearings (didn't care as long as they rolled!)
...can't remember if i had risers on that or not

Best feeling, most consistent set-up I've had in a couple years. Any changes I've made since then have been in conscious relation to that set-up. Just ordered 2 more of that Crail shape
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

thuders titaniums

This was the third version of this identical setup. It had something dialed in.

This one, because it made me fall in love with the PS Stix 8.125. I stocked up after this and am fully content. No reason to try any other boards for a long time.

Set this one up exactly a year ago:
Jamal Smith pro model, 8.25, 14' WB
5.6 V-Lights
54mm F4 Classics

This was my 5th Jamal Palace board in a row, love this shape. Since then I've picked up a few Una Krooked boards with similar specs (14' WB is my fav now) but once I return to skating from injury going to pick up another Jamal board.

This was mine, it's the only christmas complete I've had in years. I specifically loved this shape, it was shorter than most 8.5 and had really mellow concave. Something about it felt perfect and I did and filmed some of my best skating on it. Hopefully There does more decks on this shape soon. This deck got snapped in half when it got ran over by a car a month into skating it :'(

I was kinda over my FA board and everything else on is pretty worn out, so I treated myself and set up my first christmas complete in years. First time skating Ventures and Bones Swiss ever too and I'm liking both of them a lot so far. Feels good after only skating Indy's and Reds for years

8.5 Marbie There
5.8 Bobby Worrest Ventures
54mm "Cory" Duffel Orbs
Bones Swiss
Mob
Shorty's
NB 1010s

Hyped on what Western Edition puts out. I've got another one with this same graphic to skate later on.

Some great looking setups in here so far. I think the Western Edition is the standout for best graphic. We see a lot of different dims in the setup thread every day but it’s nice to see what was really working for some of you.
How many have stuck it out and continued to ride the same specs? I’m on something completely different now and I’m looking to find my way back ( or at least a happy medium).

Ok

i always change it up.
what made you switch off if something that was working? did it feel like it was working well at the time, or only in review compared to lesser subsequent setups ?

Have ridden the dlx 8.28 about 6-7 times in the past yr and a half and currently on a Tom Knox one. I stray but always come back to this shape.

Krooked Gerwer guest board
8.28 x 31.7 x 14.12
Venture 5.6
Spitfire 99 ff classics
Swiss

A lanky 5’11
Size 10.5
82 kgs (I think that’s about 180lbs)

Interestingly enough it was a shop blank twin 8.38. They no longer produce it or I would have stocked up on those.
why come?

It worked great at the time, not just in comparison. Every time I skated it I was like “ this is it, I’ve found it!” But 8.12 was hard to find in my area so back to 8.25, then I was gifted an 8.5 with 14” wheelbase and felt I had to get 8.5 trucks to go with it because the deck was 8.6 over the front truck. Went with Indy standard 149 because I remember liking them on 8.25s back in the way back and now I’m completely out of my comfort zone. I definitely overthought the need for wider trucks and will be switching back to the same trucks and wheels from my above setup while cursing myself for being insane.

This 8.38 evisen I got in a theories sale was probably the best board I rode last year I wish I never retired it. Manuals worked perfectly on this setup, nose mannys just pinched perfect I never had it like that before.

8.38 Evisen
Ace af1 44 hollow
52mm select wheels

On a 8.6 rn but excited to go back down to 8.25/38 on some smaller trucks. It’s just more fun to do my tricks with less effort and the board hurts my legs less for shinners it’s a little lighter lol

Did some of my favorite skating of 2023 on this setup:

Quasi Dick Rizzo 8.125”
Ace AF1 Low 33s with Ace Low Hard Bushings (the hard bushings made all the difference)
Spitfire 52mm F4 Classics (worn down to like 49mm at that point)
Shieldless Swiss
Bronze Allen hardware

Fastbreaks

Also shoutout Dick Rizzo for having an excellent 2023
