I wasted way too much time and energy skating handrails and stairs. I didn’t enjoy it and was trying to be like my friends that were all into Welcome to Hell. I should have stuck to low impact stuff and saved my knees and back.

Choosing to skate regular stance although I'm a goofy footer. Simply because Chief ripping section in the ON Video Summer 2001 opening montage.

Wish I spent more time trying to learn switch and nollie shit.  Also, tres and tailslides.  That will haunt me till my deathbed unless I can get my act together now (probably wont).

I tend to hyper-focus on my interests - skating included - which periodically causes burnout.

Part of me regrets the periods I took off in skating, but at the same time I feel like the other shit I did during those hiatus periods (making art, focusing on school, hitting the gym/improving physical fitness) helped me appreciate skating more when I came back to it.

On a different note, I wish I had been more open minded to learning new tricks in my teens. I really liked doing kickflips and backside flips and tended to fixate on them versus practicing more technical stuff. The learning curve is so much steeper as a grown ass man.

my biggest regret is probably not learning more tricks, but i always liked doing 3-4 easy tricks lines better than spending hours trying one trick i couldn't get.

Appart from that, i went trough 20 years of skating without a serious injury and that surpasses any regret i could have

My twin brother. My homies k ow I'm going to any new spot or park and I'm gonna do my same 4 or 5 basic ass tricks but I'm never gonna hurt myself either like majority of them did

definitely relate to this. i definitely let some good time and progression slip away by just not skating because none of my friends wanted to

I regret getting old and not having the ability to relive all of it again.

I thought about changing any of it and couldn’t find anything that wouldn’t negatively impact some other aspect of my life.

Even the part of my life that involved drinking Cisco twice or way too many 40s of Colt 45 had some sort of convoluted silver lining.

The closest thing would be I wish I didn’t leave my video tape with my friends and I skating at home in Hawaii when I went to Georgia. I didn’t know my oldest brother would be such a perverse and inconsiderate asshole that he would tape over it to record soft core skinamax jerk off shit. I’m not a mind reader and I just figured dude would go to an adult video store and just buy some porn like a grown up. Oh well.

Never landing a 360 flip or taking the time to build transition skills. Back in the day street skating was where it was at and by far the most accessible genre so tranny took a back seat.

Not paying attention to gear in my teens. I rode some pretty wack setups because things were on sale.

I should have gone to the doctor one of the many times I rolled my ankle. Left ankle doesn’t really work anymore and kind of just hangs around.

This. My left foot feels like a door without a bottom hinge.

Not filming more. I was decent in my teens/ 20s and there was always a camera around but I was way too shy and declined to get clips

Spent more time skating things I really enjoyed vs wherever the crew was heading. I didn’t realize until my mid/ late 20s, and even today, I prefer so much more than ledges

Not getting in the car more for trips to LA or SF

I became a depressed little hermit who was chronically online for several years right after I got out of high school. I still loved skating but being in a small "college town" with no money and hardly a spot put a damper on things and I pretty much just ran with it despite having friends I could call and skate with all the time. It really hindered my progress and put me in a constant state of guilt for going out skating because I had some online "friends" (despite my actual best friend I met online) that were such shitty human beings. Meanwhile my friend Matthew would constantly try to get me to go out and skate and I hardly ever did. I don't look at that point of my life fondly.

The skate trips he and I went on were always so much fun, though. I miss it a lot.

Drinking too much from 28-30 and not skating really at all during that period. Was depressed, kept making excuses about everything not just skating.

From 31 to now 34 years old got my love for skating back I get out there 4-5 times a week, not drinking anymore, married man, and have a good job.

If I can turn it around, any of you guys can too who are struggling

I regret not skate-traveling more.

After 20 years of just kinda putting it off I finally went on a skate-specific trip to Barcelona last year and it was amazing.

I'm getting old and spots are not skateable indefinitely. To think I could've been skating those spots (and more that have been taken out) when I had more stamina and better knees.
Warm Up Zone. Let's watch some skateboarding videos.

This was in the 90s. I was pretty good, like winning regional contests good. But when the choice came to move to CA or go to a good college in the other direction, I went to college.

Not skating much between sophomore and senior year of high school - I pretty much sat out BPSW

Resisting popsicle shapes when they first came out

Not sizing down from big decks sooner

Not believing kickflips were possible for 5 years (wasn’t helped by big setups)

Pushing mongo for 10 years

Not moving somewhere with better parks or weather

Not seriously trying to learn vert (I actually was set on doing this then someone stole my bigger board and that was that)

Not fully quitting skating after the initial quit. It’s been shit on my body and has probably kept me from doing more productive things. I did meet cooler people this way so that’s something.

not stretching or working out in my 20s. really came back to bite me in the ass, turns out riding a bike isn't enough

putting things off and assuming i'll always be able to revisit things. turns out you can't!

limiting myself and letting anxiety take over in my late 20s. i could have been traveling, trying to skate different things, learning different tricks, really pushing myself, but i was scared to leave my comfort zone and face failure

not documenting my skateboarding enough. some of the best skateboarding i'll ever do is lost to the sands of time and there's nothing i can do about it, aside from lament on a dying message board

Dating that one chick freshman year in high school who cheated on me with 9 dudes and another chick at a party once. Also, continuing to date that chick after she cheated on me with 9 dudes and a chick.

Skateboarding definitely took a back seat to that relationship. I wasted about a year, and my good friend who was pretty on par with me back then started to rack up a bunch of sponsors at that time.

After we broke up, I was doing the scariest, most rage-fueled tricks of my life, and ended up doing the splits so badly that the insides of both my knees swelled up like softballs and I couldn't walk right for like two weeks. I then smoked weed for the first time on the car ride home that day.
Hopefully not a kook, but if so, fuck it.

i wish i spent way less time trying to be the best student i could be in school first instead of prioritizing skating more. School only matters if you are trying to overachieve and go to serious college, which i was not.

I don't know if it's important enough for me to call it a regret, but yknow when you're really young and you and your friends are skating from spot to spot, your friends often manual down the street for as long as possible just because why not? Maybe for practice, maybe because it's fun?

I never did that. I just pushed and ollied over stuff. I kinda wish I manualed every once in a while, as later in life I had basically nothing for a manual spot. Usually meant I was the one filming which is cool, but I had no business fucking around on two wheels

I can relate to a bunch of these comments. I wish I had put in the effort to actually learn more tricks instead of just getting a handful of basics down because they came easy to me and then occasionally landing something I threw out there. Manuals. I have regular ones down and that’s it. I never put in the effort to learn anything else. I really regret quitting when I graduated from high school and went into the military. I got stationed in Virginia Beach and for the first time in my life had a good skatepark close by and only went maybe twice. Even when I lived right by it and drove by everyday going to and from work. I finally picked skating back up at about 31 and skated kind of regularly for about 5 years and with the exception of jumping down stuff I got back to what I could do at 18, then quit again at 36 until I turned 40. I always had a board I just never used it. Always close to decent parks and solid skate scenes but I wasted almost two decades just not skating.
