The perfect temperature for skating
« on: May 23, 2024, 02:16:03 AM »
This seems to deserve its own thread (specially if you're in the office and bored af).
Obviously this depends of your geo location and all that stuff but in my book a sunny 18⁰C day is the best. No sunburn, hopefully you don't sweat that much and depending of your inner thermostat you can either wear a hoodie or a t-shirt.
I have a soft spot for cold sunny days, like 2⁰ but with a lovely cloudless sky.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Well I guess I'll have to say 30 lol
But 25- 30 is good for me and I'm fine at 35 but I won't be pretending it's not hot or anything.

I like feeling the sun and the air and just being loose. I can sit down mid session and take my shoes off for a bit and not feel like I'm cooling down etc

I also tend to only skate for a couple hours. I work outside so I get that if you were planning on skating for 8 hours then it's probably gonna start wearing on you.

But humidity plays a bigger part in this than most realize.

25°c and dry doesnt exist in my country.. allways humid.
15°c with sun. is perfect. And even then i'm sweating my ass off mid session. Over 25 is horrible to skate in. Over 30 is horrible to even exist in.

Around 70 degrees F is the sweet spot. Anything above and I turn into a faucet within half an hour. Even when I was a twig I'd come outta the sesh looking like I'd just taken a shower.

Thanks for that thread, I thought I was the crazy one after @Mean salto answer :D
For me it's around 20°. I don't see myself competing with the olympics pressure around 30°.
I don't remember where I read it, but someone said that Nyjah used to have way better results when the contest was indoor instead of outdoor. I feel some contest skaters performance can be really impacted by the weather during an outdoor contest.

Lol ok I'm def in the minority at this point but take out the Olympics and skating in Paris in 30C sounds pretty nice to me.
Obvs lessons have to be learned from the Japan Olympics that were I think over 35 but even worse done in the middle of the day with no shade anywhere

As others have said, it's less temperature than humidity for me. But 15-25°C is definitely the sweet spot

Obv the 60-70 mild temperament is ideal but I lo key like skating when it’s 80-90s and sweating all crazy - I’m talking eyebrows dripping on the ground moms spaghetti etc - the rewarding feeling of landing a trick you really battled in the sweltering heat is way more satisfying then an equal battle in the winter with a jacket on - also I j like the vibes of a sesh on a hot day a pose to a cold one - I’d much rather air dry with my shirt off and an ice cold bev after a sesh with the homies then start sniffling all crazy and having to blow my nose into my hoodie every 30 secs while waiting for my hoodie to dry enough for me to stop shivering
