Had og Cats from the first release in 11.5 and they jammed my toes up a bit. Have more recent Cat lows (yellow/gum ones) in 12 and they feel a bit too roomy. Seems like they've changed the mids a bit since the first release (thinner collar etc) — anybody know how different the fit is? Running bigger or smaller?

I dm’d i-path’s IG yesterday and asked about the reeds actually being vulc and they confirmed they aren’t actually vulc. and then I asked if the Taylor’s were actually vulc. so apparently, they don’t actually make any vulc shoes, they just look vulc.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

That's interesting, I had the Reeds and Taylors and I can at least attest that both had egg crate. I could see the pattern through the lasting material after some skating. I like how the sole on the vulc but really cupsole models has that sharp edge that usually only vulcs have, I wonder why more companies don't do that for cupsoles. Makes me feel more connected to my board.

I think with the way cupsole molds are designed,  it's difficult to make a sharper edge throughout. Not impossible,  but all the videos & inside look on shoe production I've seen make the sharp edges a unique to the rubber foxing wrap & trim process.

Some exceptions I can think of are the heel/midfoot outsole tread patterns that follow the "dunk" / basketball look, which do have some sharper contact edges.

The "faux vulc" style of Vans Wafflecup or even these IPath Reeds/Taylor soles makes it look possible to some blending of a cupsole unit with vulcanized detailing. Excellent point to bring up for the brands making cupsoles tbh

These breakdowns are good, but if you're just looking at abrasion tests, you're not seeing how construction impacts durability. The cats splitting open after a day is a good example of this.

Agree, I've skated the Reeds, Cats, Poets and Grasshoppers. They skate so well and the suede is good quality for the most part, but they all blow out pretty quick. I can fit my entire fist through the kickflip area of my Grasshoppers. I'm skating the Kalis S right now and the difference with durability is night and day with no stitches or seams in the toe area.
