Gillette can play a little, but I can't unsee (and unhear) his bare nuts on the cold, forged steel of a vice, so I never listen to him. Riley Hawk's father's son is the guitarist in a somewhat decent band I heard. Plus his wife was blessed with musical talent-heavy genes, which is bound to rub off on him as well.

Not pro but Eric Russell. He’s low-key the best guitar player on the East Coast. Jake would 1000% agree Eric is the best guitar/skater on planet earth.

I don’t know who is best- but I like that Pat Duffy and Rob Welsh used to play music together and their band was called Patman & Robin.

Yes. Him and Ray Barbee seem to be the only ones I can think of who actually have some original flavor. They get by as musicians on their own merits.

Matt Costa is also a musical fella although I don't believe he was ever pro.

I think Matt was pro for Planet Earth back in the day? I'm not too certain either.

I think Danny Garcia makes the most enjoyable music to listen to from a skater. Not sure if that's equivalent to the best guitar playing, but maybe best musician.

neither were pro but cass mccombs and the mt. egypt dude who recently passed on (travis graves) grew up skating together i think? i believe travis rode for supernaut.

love cass's music but never seen any clips of him skating. he's obviously sound tracked a bunch of amazing parts though

This Ray Barbee 2 song set from 411vm issue 26 has lived in my head rent free for the past 2 decades. I got to meet him super briefly at Tampa but he was travelling to his car with his gear and didnt want to bother him. He was playing at the after party at "The Bricks" pub where all the pros go and I guess we got there too late. IT was like 2 in the morning and I said to someone "Whens Ray Barbee coming on?!" and he said "Dude, he played hours ago..." :'(

Dead on. I remember skate clips highlighting a day in the life with him and being floored with how good he was with the Flamenco guitar style. Also Javier Sarmiento is pretty talented with that as well

I don't recall any b-roll footage of Figgy playing acoustic guitar at the spot while other people are trying to get a clip.
So that counts in his favor.

Similarly (and while we're listing guitarist/pros) Riley Hawk has played guitar in a touring stoner rock band.

Ah, no, I can see the confusion. My bad. The rubbing off part referred to her talent, not her genes (from which that talent comes). The process of rubbing off and the process of passing on genes are two entirely incompatible things, obviously.

that was an awesome issue of 411. got sucked in and watched some of it from your post. Danny Gonzalez part had some crazy stuff in it. that road trip was an epic lineup too.
