The New Royal Thread
« on: September 07, 2024, 02:32:52 PM »
Old Thread: https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=119099.0

Punk locked the thread so here's a new one for the few (2?) Royal heads out there.

https://royalskateboardtrucks.com/

Some reviews:

https://www.skatedeluxe.com/blog/en/royal-trucks-ultra-lights-review-skate-test/

Bushings run very soft; if you like tighter trucks or have a bit of a dad bod, these are the bushings that fit best (the Stock bottom is very tall):

ACE mediums/ACE hards
Krux 92a/Krux 96a
Thunder bottoms are also a match

--

Been bouncing around between Venture (street) and Slappy (park/curbs) and I just can't quit the Royals, they are smack in the middle.

I was struggling a bit with on a 14.38WB, ventures too long, slappys just felt tall and made the WB feel tight...threw in some Krux 92a (white) bushings into some 149s IKP royals and everything was right in the world again.

I had some 144 ultralights a while back and they felt way too light.  Lately I've really been wanting to try the out again, only not ultralight.  Think I may have to give some 149s a try - any downside to the ikp?

I got a pair of 144s ima go back to once I get over skating these Indy 139s(nostalgia made me do it, no regrets). Loved em, I think 54mm is wheels on them was annoying for me tho probably stick to 52s or 53s next time around with the ace bushings.

The Ultralights are very light, thunder lites territory. The Royal standards are lighter than Indy Ti, or so says crail.

I'm running the IKP with 149 Ultra (hollow) hangers (thanks again @BartHarleyJarvis) for no other reason than I have them (was running the standard 149s hangers prior).

I've had no issues with the IKP (tho some have), but I also check my shit and adjust it for what I'm doing (manuals and ollies I go tighter, slappys looser, etc.)...so if it does or has loosened, I've never noticed.

I tried 55mm wheels, couldn't do it, wheelbite. Tried 96a krux bushings (pink ones) and 55mm wheels. Couldn't turn (I'd literally fall off); back down to 52mm with the 92a krux.

Took my 159s for their first roll today.
First impressions: pretty easy to get used to even at stock tightness (looseness?), maybe a bit lower (?) than the films I was skating so my pop felt a bit heavy but not too off. Manual point is fine for me.

Impish sausage is definitely gonna blow up as a euphemism this year

I am actually wondering as I’m helping a beginner friend : would it be the ideal trucks as it seems stable, not too much wheelbite but still turns etc ?
I haven’t tried mine yet as I’m always worried about loosing sessions not being comfy on a setup but it’ll definitely be my next try

If you’re looking for peak stability I would go with ventures. Royals are a nice happy medium but you won’t beat venture in terms of stability and I could always turn ventures fine. They get a bad rap and it’s not that bad lol

with the current crail deal, it's 2 decks, 2 grip, and a set of royals for 109. Basically a free set of royals if anyone wants to try them while stacking up on some decks too.

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?action=search2

Seems to hover around +3 - Indy territory...tho  I find them more neutral and can run them on shorter WB no problem.

Fellow Royal enjoyer/sicko here

Just for some (limited) weight info, I've had 3 sets, 2 pairs of ultralights and one standard.

Royal Ultralight 159: 339g
Royal Ultralight 149: 326g
Royal Standard 139: 340g

For comparison, that standard 139 is 4g lighter than Indy TI 149s and a hell of a lot cheaper. The only other 8" trucks I had were Venture Lo Standardd 5.2 which weighed in at 365g.
If you see offensive comments, just let it go into one eye and let it out of the other eye, no tears and not sadness or anger.

Thunder titanium is 149 is 315.5g for 90$ a set compared to 45$ for royal at only a 10g difference. Ill give them a chance.

I just pulled the trigger on this deal based on that same reasoning.  I’ve been on Indy’s since the 90s (I skated Thunders and magnesium Gullwings in the 80s) so looking forward to trying something new.  And if I hate em I’ll just pass them on.

I know it’s probably the wrong thread but …. If I pick 9.25 does that mean I'm getting couches and not loveseats or phawts?  Also, anyone know what Royals come in the box?  I assume it’ll be the raws but hoping for IKP.

I’m curious about the mystery box with the “set of trucks” keep us posted on it. I think all they have left are inverted kingpins, that’s all I see online at least.

Ace hard bushings honestly goat this truck, Joey and Mike grew up in SF how hard would it for royal just to get the ace bushings standard in their trucks? Didn’t Mike ride for diamond for a long time? Was he only friends with Nick?Anyways I grinded  through the base layer of metal on mine and things are getting nice, left them pretty loose and surfy since I got the hard bushings and wanted to break them in proper, but I haven’t felt the need to tighten them back up so I’m gonna run them loose for a bit and see what happens other than that like I said I really been digging mine, pleasantly surprised about the new royals and I will be coming back for another set

Crailtap still hasn’t shipped my order, it’s been a week and a half now.  I sent an email on Monday, when it had reached the one week point, and they responded stating that they were holding all shipments because they were waiting on more grip tape.

I wouldn’t be as bothered about it if they had proactively contacted me to tell me the reason for the delay. But not impressed so far.

Primitive is the same way right now, any sale and they get inundated..one e-mail almost 2 weeks after placing the order asking to cancel said order and lo-and behold a shipping notice about 30min later...always works...normally they ship out in a day and it gets here in two (I am not far from the warheshouse).

Lmaooo sounds more like you and your entire local got scammed, I’m not gonna take my trucks off to check but I’m pretty sure the only time I’ve seen a pivot through a baseplate was with the ace lows, and while this is a new thread, no one in the old one had any problems like the ones your talking about, no cracked axels, no bent axels, and none of them with a hole in the baseplate to see the pivot cup, so come up with a pic or it didn’t happen….liar

BS post...lol I've had multiple sets (139 ultra, 144 ultra, 144 IKP, 149 IKP, 149 ultra, 159 Ultra...yes that many ;), all perfect (only the 159s had a hint of rust one the axle)...imagine going through the effort to lie so you can bag on a 'thing' that he probably doesn't even care about (but does enough to post like this.lol).

Nope.  Nothing, not even a notification.  I ordered on 9/9.

Update: I tried the advice above and sent an email canceling my order.  And …. they cancelled my order.  Oh well, guess it wasn’t meant to be.
