Mike V Appreciation- New Powell Reissue and lost poems
« on: September 11, 2024, 06:08:29 AM »

Who else is excited for the upcoming Mike V "Bug" Powell Reissue?

Together with the new songs and stories video journal, this is sure to be a big hit.

For those that enjoy Mike V's poetry, anyone actually have a copy of/seen the following:

https://interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=102558&

Burn and Burn- if so, please let me know.  May very well contain the secrets of the universe.

Product description:

Originally released early in 1990, Burn And Burn is Mike V's first published collection of writings. These books were only available for a limited time in the early nineties before Mike unhappy with the final product stopped distributing them and locked them away in a storage unit. The writings detail a tumultuous time in Mike's life. Leaving his home state of New Jersey for Southern California, being disillusioned with the skateboard industry, his young pro career and the world around him, Mike put pen to paper and bled.

For those that appreciate Mike V, I'll keep digging!

Nobody Mike, nobody cares about you. Maybe you can try to go back to Element.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

The elephant graphic board was a huge deal when it came out, must have board, along with the T-shirt etc.

But I can't understand why Mike (or OP?  is this true?) didn't like the bug graphic to the point of refusal?  Would love to hear Mike's side on this.

His Public Domain part was amazing, and is still fun to watch all this years later.  But little did any of us know who were waiting so patiently for the first Powell Mike V part that it would be sort of eclipsed by Ray Barbee and Frankie Hill?  Those parts came out of no where and blew us away.

I will always love Mike V - would be good if Birdman could have him on his podcast (on a day when Jason Ellis is at the dmv)

Having said that I haven't been able to read a Mike V poem yet, maybe someday?

Mike V—I do not appreciate you. I think you’re a shitty person and horrible representative of skateboarding. I’m sure the next stop on your neverending board sponsor tour will be short-lived. I wish you no luck.

Rollins did a terrible job of ripping off Bukowski and Mike V did a terrible job of ripping off Rollins.

It doesn't bug me but arguably that's a bug.

Just want to confirm that if my facebook skateboard collectors/skaters over X feed are correct (aka, my entire Facebook feed), the Mike V bug series and gold foil elephant have been selling a ton.

That is going to help keep Mike in big tire bikes and Powell in videographers and grip tape designers.

Get over it everyone.  The bug will be here when you are long gone.

Edit: Forgot to mention, have seen multiple folks confirm they got one of each to hang, and to skate, so he's just made 4 sales of each decks to each person bragging in these threads.

Again, hats off Mike and the Powell perelta team on genius marketing and product design.

You want some gravy for all this sausage you’re eating?

Ha! You don’t think they will want at least some footage??? If I was PP I’d definitely expect a lil vid of the V doing his thing, wether that’s running through a graveyard or elbow dropping a car we will have to wait and see, now dude please read us some excerpts from his poetry book

Camera zooms in… he’s wearing the original tee from 1987/ 1988. Looking intensely at a headstone.

Next shot: a closeup of his eyes welling up with tears.

The camera pans down the headstone and its every board sponsor he’s ever had. (It’s a tall headstone)

He doesn’t say it, because he’s too proud of a man, but the look on his face just says “RIP my pride”

From what I understand, Mike V is not skating. Black Flag came through Detroit in I think August and I was scheming to try to convince Svitak to have Mike link up with me for an hour in the city, specifically for the reaction that I knew a random Mike V friends section clip would get in a Michigan/Ohio indie video full of late 20’s/mid 30’s nobodies. It was shut down immediately because of the whole Black Flag thing. I really wanted some kind of fling the board around and jump back on it at Hart Plaza or something in between clips of my friends.
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this

No,  I dont think they expect him to have a part.  It really doesn't matter for his crowd.  If anything, I think there is a chance they paid him to go exclusive with Powell going forward to put out the bug graffic, or something (some kind of contact similar to what Sir Cabellero, the cavalier knight of lore, may have, or any of the others like Franky, Bucky, Nicky, Ticky or any of the other legendary characters).

Edit: Sorry, to clarify, at some point I think its possible when black flag touring chills for a bit he does a driveway skate session with Andy and it gets 800K views.  You heard it here first.  But I dont think they expect him to show up to events regularly.

Lmaoooo hell yea I’d be hyped for a driveway && and big V shesh, May have to grab a bug shirt, kinda digging that graphic

Everyone clowns on Mike for being a Rollins clone…because well…he’s the singer in black flag and has a history of being physically imposing….but Jim Thiebaud also has a poetry book and does he also have a Rollinsesque tattoo as well?  Definitely Jason Jessee has one but for some reason I think Jim T has one too….

Yeah, but by all accounts, Jim T is a good human being.  I’ve never heard any stories about Jim T fucking over his best friend and business partner out of money because he believed he was a God and deserved all the cash.  Or punching random people in the face.  By all accounts, Mike V is a self-absorbed prick. That’s what we judge him for. Not his shitty poetry.

Wait. We are judging him for shitty poetry too. No matter how hard he tries when he’s Doin It.

Yes, Jim T published some poetry long before Mike V but is it rip off of Rollins ripping off Bukowski? I don't know...

I can respect all kinds of skateboarding and all kinds of poetry.

I actually dig a lot of Mike V's skateboarding. I like Ban This and I like Rubbish Heap but he really peaked skating to Husker Du in Suburban Diners. That part had some poetry to it.

His actual poetry has always been shite. He could always work on it but I'd recommend he not.
Poetry should not hurt to read... well not in that way...
