There's going to be a recession under Trump. Then, his rich elite friends are going to buy up shit for ridiculous sale prices.

He's trying to make it happen sooner than later.

The crack pot theories that Trump wants to crash the economy in order to starve people and make them rebel so he can enact the Insurrection Act, declare Martial Law, and use the military against the people and his enemies in order to stay in power keep seeming less and less like a crack pot theory.

Especially that a lot of his actions in the first week have had a lot of connection to Project 2025. Something he vehemently said he had no idea as to what it was.

Guess on the bright side is immigrats aren't eating cats anymore.

Hitler 2.0; before WW2 Germany I'm sure you saw cartoon wheelbarrow full of pennies for a loaf of bread and then the kaiser was usurped then Hitler brown shirts were to gain power, history is repeating itself and it's frightening. We all knew he was compromised by the kremlin in the mid to late 70's he's now being backed by what was our enemies.  I know I know you'll can kook me all to death whatever but the reality is quite evident just wait.

I spent the whole campaign doomscrolling and getting scolded by my s/o that I was worrying for nothing.  Now he’s in, I logged off for my own sanity, and she’s dooming over all the headlines and throwing crazy scenarios at me.  Can’t make this shit up.

Also going through this and trying to move forward. Just made my first firearm purchase today and plan to hit the range asap.

I think all fed workers are about to be mass fired and I think something even bigger is going down after the Super Bowl.

Why stop at a recession? If he gets what he wants and is actually somehow able have every illegal immigrant in the country deported, he will send this country in a tail spin into a full blown depression. I honestly don't know if him and his cronies either haven't thought of or don't care about the implications of what that plan would mean.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Nm.  NY Times already dropped it:

The Trump administration offered federal workers a deal: resign in exchange for 8 months of pay. It is unclear if it is authorized to do that.

Like when Reagan lowered taxes so much the government couldn’t afford to run (iirc) so he had quietly raise them again

No illegal immigrants contributing to the economy means they are not contributing at all tax-wise. You can expect the food, hospitality, farming, and construction industries to grind to a complete halt. Surely that will help the economy.

I'm cleaning out/refreshing my water stores to have enough for at least 2 months. Hopefully, the guardrails in place will keep things going. There is no way in hell I am starting a 401k right now. That is for damn sure.

Yeah, that's what he does:

Lie about things to convince those impressionable on the fence that he wouldn't do that, or he would do this, or he doesn't support this or he does support that -- just to get in power -- then he goes ahead and does the scuzzy shit and supports the scuzzy ppl that those of us who recognize him for the total P.O.S. he is knew in the first place he would do.

He thinks, so long as he wins, it's a good, honorable tactic. He has no qualms with lying to get what you want, so long as you get it. If you can do it -- if there are impressionable/uneducated ppl out there that you can fool -- if there is a way to game the system for your personal gain, even if it's deceitful and especially if it has little to no consequences -- then do it.

Same way he proudly boasted about gaming the tax system during his debate with Hilary Clinton in 2016. He said it shows he's smart. If he can fool the public to get what he wants, he considers that smart and something for which he should be applauded.

Well I knew it was possible but didn't think it could happen this quick. Trump and his cronies have ordered our Federal funders (DHHS Family youth services bureau) to stop coordinating and communicating with us. One of the most successful youth Transitional Living Programs in the country (and many more I am sure) just got cut off. We might be fucked. Now is the time for Oregon, Multnomah County and Portland to step up. Buckle up and let's hope these lunatics loose steam before too much irreversible damage is done.

Pretty surreal to be in the position.... and I hate the word surreal.

Man, what the hell is going on over there? The system has always been "vote for the lesser evil" therefore you're always going in the direction of evil. Trump's second term seems like a huge leap forward in that direction though - even more so than the first but I guess that set the groundwork.

I haven't lived there for almost a decade now and it's wild seeing what people are posting: warnings about ICE raids, federal funding freezes, inhumane deportations, etc... And to also see people defending it? Saying shit like, "if I trespass on someone's lawn, that's what I'd expect". Damn, so many brainwashed assholes.

I always thought one of the craziest things about this was that anyone with enough money could run for president, get elected, take office, and do these things? Where they just being "cordial" with each other before?

These next four years are gonna be rough. If the politicians don't get it together after this term and find a new Bernie - guessing he'll be too old or just wouldn't want to run anyway - we'll probably get someone even worse than Trump. I don't even know what "getting it together" means for politicians now. It seems like they don't really care as long as they can keep doing their insider trading and taking and super pac money (bribes, basically).

Zuckerberg recently cried about the Democrats being mean to him by "pressuring" him to slightly limit the amount of misinformation floating around Facebook and IG during covid  :'(

Fucker just gave Trump 25 million dollars for a bullshit lawsuit
https://www.npr.org/2025/01/29/nx-s1-5279570/meta-trump-settlement-facebook-instagram-suspensions

After Trump threatened him with life in prison

Zuckerberg has always been a piece of shit, but his mini-Musk impression is weak. Zuckerberg probably would have beaten Musk in a fight, but he certainly looks like the bigger pussy, which is an accomplishment.

this is factually incorrect. undocumented work results in payroll taxes being contributed by the employer. undocumented workers cannot get the refund other workers get, so the government keeps more, and undocumented workers can’t access the benefits the taxes pay for, so the government keeps even more.

I believe you are reading this as if there is a comma after "No", when I think it's meant as:
{no contributions from illegal immigrants to the economy} will result in {no more tax money from them to support food, hospitality, etc.}

Man the anti-DEI movement seems to really be code for, "Non-whites, non-asians, and LGBTQ are the cause of all problems. We believe they are inferior. We need to force them back down to the bottom of the socio-economic hierarchy and get white men back in those jobs."

It's insane. DEI is just their covert way for the N-word now. Like calling Kamala a DEI hire. Someone with 20+ years as a DA, Attorney General, Senator, and VP is grossly unqualified because she's Indian (because those white folk said she can't be black).

Versus Trump who is white and had zero previous government experience.
