This is off the mark. "Not Trump" created an upset victory in the mid-terms, and--I agree--they held that script for a little too long when marketing themselves in the recent election. Their actual focus was on was on much more than Trump. In fact, considering how slowly all of Trump's court cases on his illegal behavior moved AND how they didn't put in laws to limit presidential power, the opposite might be true.
The Dems got into a pickle with Manchin and that nutcase Sinema blocking and slowing legislation down and they were too slow to force the money out the door once the legislation passed, but with the Infrastructure Bill they passed:
$110 billion for roads, bridges and other major projects;
$11 billion for transportation safety programs;
$39 billion to modernize transit and improve accessibility;
$66 billion for passenger and freight rail;
$7.5 billion to build a national network of electric vehicle chargers;
$73 billion to overhaul the nation's power infrastructure, clean energy transmission, and overall energy policy;
$65 billion for broadband development.
They set aside a $369 billion investment in climate change via the Inflation Reduction Act.
They let Medicare negotiate drug prices w/big pharma.
They supported Ukraine in their war against Russia and N. Korea.
They remade ties with our allies, used diplomacy and support to garner good will around the world and enforce our power/control around the world
They tried to encourage local manufacturing of computer stuff with the CHIPS act.
They halted all federal level death penalties.
They tried to reduce student debt (eventually pulling off some debt reduction).
Biden tried to support unions (Biden blew it with the train strikes, but he was there for auto-unions and others).
They tried to pass a bi-partisan border security bill that the Republican reneged on so Trump could campaign on immigration.
All so crazy. Why in the hell did Democrats do this? If only we were:
- threatening Canada
- threatening Denmark/Greenland
- threatening Europe
- using our common sense to side with N Korea and Russia
- giggle about displacing millions of people to build resorts on their land
- reducing environmental and employee protections
- firing the FDA people who are reviewing medicines and technologies that could help Americans
- firing those corrupt park rangers
- promoting for profit "universities"
- putting our unqualified friends in power because they are loyal not smart
- openly taking bribes (Musk and Trump's overt transactional gift and ability to shovel American money into their pockets is insane)
- and so on.
Democrats need to advertise themselves better and certainly have some bad ideas, but to say they only focused on Trump is far far far off the mark. In fact, considering how hands off Biden was with all the court cases Trump was facing, they were too hands off and not focused on enough on him. There should have been pressure of "do your fucking job, do it fairly and justly, but do not slow walk this into the election and let him get away with obvious crimes."
