Murkowski "Don't vote for the bill that I just voted for." I feel like she is only swing voter when it doesn't matter. It is a bummer. She isn't hyper wealthy (roughly 2 million plus her pension), but rich enough not worry about money for the rest of her life. Why are the "moderate" republicans and the "hardline" republicans so quick to retreat? They bark and make noise but never hold their convictions. Why did the Dems have to deal with fucking Manchin who was willing to throw the entire bill away to protect his coal plant?

Not sure how I feel about the large tax deductions for tips, overtime, and social security. Social security deductions are possibly the hardest to swallow. The old have the lowest poverty rates in America and those who are just living off social security (not a pension or a huge 401K) aren't really paying anything in taxes in the first place. And I wonder if the loss of the benefits is going to cost them more than the tax deduction.

As for the tips and overtime, I don't know. I like when workers have more money. But, I don't like that it is people who earn a salary that are the ones who get get caught holding the bag here. And, tipping culture is weird enough in America, I wonder if tipped jobs will expand.

Finally, I was wrong. I thought Musk held all the cards since he has so much more money than Trump. But, it seems his threat to primary anyone who votes for the bill was ignored. I wonder if he will follow through, that'll be great. I'd bet he'll go all in nazi's. Hell maybe import AfD and National Front people to America so they can run in his "centrist" party.

AOC articulates the no tax on tips scam pretty well here. The untaxed rate was also kept stupid high so that it would benefit the broker class who routinely get chubby tips when their work pays off. So bullshit on looking out for working moms pulling shifts at the diner.

Manchin and Murkowski are an interesting comparison. They both consistently acted as brakes on their party's agenda but Manchin never caved. Same motivation too though. So few people live in AK that they have to advocate harder to get the same basic Federal support a more populous state would get. Kentucky is poor as hell and their economy is based around a dead resource. So the Senators advocate for their causes while they thwart the big picture planning. Murkowski got the carve outs she wanted and said as such. She voted yes and then felt real bad about it publicly on live TV. Played by Trump or his handlers again, just like all the other times.
