I'm nervous about what the right's reaction to this will be. But, I guess not much happened after Trump's ear didn't get shot so hopefully nothing major.

The kooky kid who shot at Trump was one theirs or wasn't clearly left. They dropped it cause it didn't help their narrative to discuss the motivations of the shooter.


Finally, I find it interesting that Kirk pointed out other people's deaths were the price of liberty. I wonder if he still felt that way when it was his turn to be one of the costs.

How the administration will respond to this is obvious and it is in same rant about gun deaths being worth it. More guns, more police, and more state power against the people. Kirk incorrectly believed that we stopped shootings at airports with armed guards... rather the obvious of having unarmed TSA agents screen for guns airports.

It isn't going to undo his horrible organizations. It isn't going to undo the harm he caused. And, it isn't going to end his simplistic messages that can be produced by anyone. This is going to cause a spike in the harms against society that this guyed dreamed of his whole life. And, if people normalize him and believe his ideas to be "conservative" rather than far-right kookery it will do even more harm.

I agree that the left needs to step up and do something push back against what is happening, but this isn't it. This isn't going to help. Instead, the left needs to support the Democrats become a stronger and braver political party. The Democrats recently had two politicians assassinated and many GOP politicians thought it was a joke. The correct response is to use the bully pulpit and to use the levers of government to prevent the murder of democrats from occurring again, seeking justice to those involved, those promoting it, and those joking about it. And, to start pushing back against the insane far-right movement that has gained far too much power over the past 30 years.

I'm glad I have multiple passports, but I just wish my second passport got me further away from this country. I really don't know how things get better.
