I like to lurk on / occasionally post on a running forum I've been part of for 10+ years because I ran for sport in school. Distance running is big in rural America (though I wasn't in rural America, I would just read the forums).

I was disgusted by the ICE takes on those forums. It's niche enough where I don't think it's bots, its just the opinion of HS and college cross country coaches in Nebraska. Id sayd 50% of takes were pro-ICE / defending them, another 30% were "centrists" who would talk about whether or not its justified or analyzing shit in IMAX 1080HD60FPS or whatever, completely losing the plot.

I'm happy everyone here is logical, has common sense, and isn't beyond saving from American propaganda.


That being said, I saw a tik tok (great source, I know), of someone saying they HEARD someone else says they know yada etc x5) that the Orders ICE agents got when going to MN was that 100% of the somolis were undocumented (not true, 90% have papers, the people doing the fraud have papers), and that they have serious quotas they have to meet and are already getting desperate. And apparently the $50k bonus only hits if you don't quit for 5 years.. They're also under the impression that everyone loves them and they'll be welcome with open arms, which I believe because I guarantee they live in bubbles where their entire algorithm + TV (fox) is feeding them the garbage that made them that way.

I think this is all intentional (lying to them to provoke more violence to send a message).

It is Letsrun lol. I consider it more like 4chan instead of Slap since its fully anonymous. But yes, in terms of people "taking it seriously", as in no one there is a casual runner, it's people like me who actually follow professional running or may have even considered it after going D1 or whatever.

It's good for trash talking and memes and true unfiltered opinions regarding running from true running nerds. I just never ventured to the "Unrelated", non-running threads until now.

It's a shame because my favorite t shirt is a shirt with their logo, makes me feel weird wearing it now.

It's interesting to hear about the environment over there and your take on that forum being more like 4Chan, hehe. I'm more familiar with that website's owners than the site itself, dated their family member for years. They're some characters. I went on the forum to see what it was about once and saw some shit pretty quick. From my experience, whole fam is good people with sound views, I wouldn't say the forum operators are coming from a pro-MAGA place, not sure if that helps. As for the posters, I don't see how you can support ICE's actions without having some kind of hate in your heart or being unforgivably ignorant.

What Booker does wrong is explain things. Don't explain to the public, don't worry about nuance, just make a meme and move on. Trump tells people this is good or bad and doesn't explain why. The why doesn't matter cause most of us don't know enough about a specific topic to come to a conclusion anyway. Most of us are waiting to be told what to think and then we reach for details to support that belief.

The details are just things to argue about while we are clinging to our initial feelings about a situation that was established before knowing anything past the most basic elements that signaled our side/their side.

Who the fuck is running the social media campaign for these people? Honestly, there had to be a better way to do this in 15 seconds or less. There are so many simplistic American narratives to pull from and they used none of them.
