It is confounding that there’s an implied expectation that there’ll be no accountability for D.

Why, though, did you single out M.Fouc for sexual transgressions? Notably, he was one of the major French intellectuals refusing to sign the ‘77 petition reducing the age of consent.

Watching a few of these other countries like England and France start holding investigations in regards to the files will only make this country look worse for doing nothing.
[close]

just to chime in about that from a French perspective: the only person really involved in all this for the moment seems to be Jack Lang. and it's just unbelievable that guy is still around and being paid off public money...He's 86! He was minister for Culture when Mitterand, the first French socialist president came to power in 81. I was still in primary school! and I'm old myself  ::)
he was still president of the Arab World Institute in Paris until February, till the Epstein thing.
plus the guy has signed numerous petitions in support of pedophiles, in the glory days of Foucaut and the French intellectuals of 1968 (the "nothing is forbidden" days), he was also famously caught "fooling around" with young moroccon boys in Casablanca, in the 2000's....Good riddance.

Interesting to have Foucault mentioned. I have nothing of importance to add except a girl in one of my classes couldn't figure out how to say his name and called him, "foo-koo" for years. I know how to say his name but every time I read it, in my mind, I think "pho-calt."

Maybe something that isn't completely dumb. I feel like we are living in Foucault's knowledge power cycle in the worst way. Power is defining the stupidist shit as knowledge, which is reinforcing its power and the cycle just keeps going.

WTF? This is all sorts of crazy. The structure of the wiki entry makes it all the crazier/hard to follow.

It seems like three different things are happening in this entry at once:
1. There was an argument that homosexual men should have the same age of consent as heterosexual people. Ok, it is easy to get on board with this one.
2. There was an argument that age of consent should fucking 13!? because that is when kids also become legally responsible for their actions in France. Was this actually an argument for consent or was this against holding minors responsible for legal actions? (I want to believe it was latter, but I already kind of know it was about the former  :( ).
3. There was defense of someone who engaged in abuse of kids? :(

Man, what the fuck?

Your reading is correct. The person who started the petition signed by Sartre & de Beauvoir among others, released a book titled “Under 16 Years Old”. Beginning in 2002, he held a lifetime annual stipend from the French National Book Center. It wasn’t until a woman wrote a memoir “Consent” about her interaction being forced that he fell from French haute sociétié in 2020.

Violating the constitution, ignoring due process, ignoring court rulings, and killing people, including citizens, with impunity is American?

He didn’t stand up because protecting US citizens includes paying me to post here and he isn’t happy about it. The government keeps paying me: protecting you, citizen, from even worse posts. He wants my job instead of having to go to speeches.

Are you serious?? Fuck standing for anyone using the phrase “illegal immigrants.” Fuck standing for a president who wants to revoke Mark Kelly’s military pension because he doesn’t like him. Fuck standing for a party who puts more guns in the streets in the hands of untrained “law” “enforcement” when Kelly’s wife, Gabby Giffords, is an actual survivor of gun violence. Fuck standing for a president whose ICE raids have murdered innocent Americans and arrested hundreds of other citizens. Sanctuary Cities are not inherently more deadly. Fuck thinking that standing and clapping was anything more than to boost his fragile bitch ass ego.

Seriously that dude should not be so embattled. This admin has been up his ass since jump. Every time I see a clip from the SOTU I reflexively start flipping the bird to no one. Remaining seated was restraint.

(Why do I keep going in for Mark Kelly? Is it the Gabby Giffords thing?)

sorry I did not mean to imply Foucault was involved in sexual stuff, I just mentioned him as a symbol of the times, as he represents that view of "everything in society is power and oppression", therefore nothing is forbidden. (Il est interdit d'interdire)
So you are right. I should have mentioned Sartre and Beauvoir instead, who did sign the petition you speak of. Beauvoir also famously "supplied" Sartre with youg attractive female students.... And yes, the whole Matzneff story is nuts. and sordid. As is the Olivier Duhamel incest saga, for those who are interested in the skeletons of the Parisian intellectual elite. Lots of horrendous shit that was covered over in the wake of the 1968 "sexual liberation".

Anyways to get back to Trump: I've seen lots of stuff about him being in advanced stages of dementia. Kinda makes sense I have to say. Could be dead in 3 months, supposedly. Any of you guys heard about that, what do you think?

LOL. Rep. Lauren Boebert has "inadvertently" paused Hillary's deposition because she sent an UNAUTHORIZED photo from the hearing (outside press and photos aren't allowed) to Benny Johnson. Yes, the same Benny Johnson who (along with Tim Pool) was found in 2024 of being paid $400,000 by a Russian backed media company to spread Russian propaganda.

This administration is truly a clusterfuck of clowns.

I could be wrong, but hasn't it been shown that sanctuary cities generally tend to be statistically safer than non-sanctuary cities?

“A short time ago, the US military began major combat operations in Iran," he said.

He said Iran was the "world's number one state sponsor of terror, and just recently killed tens of thousands of its own citizens on the street as they protested.”

"The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we're doing this not for now. We're doing this for the future," Mr Trump said.

Trump… urging residents to stay inside as "bombs will be dropping everywhere".

During the next four years there are going to be a lot of changes. It will be next to impossible to track/remember of all of them on our own. I'm creating this thread so we can log what changed and use this as a resource. I imagine most of these changes will be for the worse, but there will be a few things that might change for the better.

And just to log a starting point, as of today, Nov 9th:

Unemployment: 4.1%. (https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-unemployment-rate.htm)
Percent of Americans living in poverty: 11.1% (https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2024/demo/p60-283.html)
Dow Jones Industrial Average:43,988 (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EDJI/)
Avg US Gas Price: $3.09  (https://gasprices.aaa.com/)
Inflation Rate: 2.44%. (https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_inflation_rate)
National Debt: $35,984,888,500  (https://www.usdebtclock.org/)
Number of Incarcerated people in America: 1.9 million  (https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2024.html)
Median Household income (2023): $80,610 (https://www.moneygeek.com/career/median-income-by-age/)
Median Home Price: $420,000  (https://www.fool.com/money/research/average-house-price-state/.)
Interest Rate: 4.5% to 4.75%.  (https://www.usbank.com/investing/financial-perspectives/market-news/federal-reserve-interest-rate.html)
TSLA stock: 252 (Nov 4th closing price) (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TSLA/)
USD Dollar value in Euros: 93 cents
BTC to USD: Roughly 68,770 (start of Nov 5th) (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/)
Measles cases: 277 (https://www.cdc.gov/measles/data-research/index.html)
% of Americans that own a home: 65% (https://www.census.gov/housing/hvs/files/currenthvspress.pdf)
Number of homeless: 653,104 (https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-homeless-people-are-in-the-us-what-does-the-data-miss/#.)

I'll try to add in a few other basic stats over the next few days. I imagine the next four years will be super weird and we'll need to track all the changes... and separate the bluster from reality (so many Build Back Better accomplishments will be credited to Trump and team. Dems invested heavily in red states).

Just saying it doesn’t matter who’s president. The elites run this WORLD not only the USA. What they want is to divide us so when they decide to make one global government they’ll
Have us so pinned against one another that we’ll all fight for crumbs while they kick back and enjoy the show. Elon Musk says hey AI will take over robots will take over jobs and we will all have a “Universal Income”…. Why the need for the working class or the rest of us once that happens? I for one don’t watch the news or follow politics anymore it’s useless. It’s all just a game to these politicians. We pay so much in taxes and what does it go towards not a damn thing to help any of us! Look up all of the underground bunkers these elites are setting up. What do you think that’s for? If you haven’t read George Orwells 1984 I suggest you do because that’s exactly the direction the world is going in. People need to realize the world’s leaders are just money hungry power hungry people that will do anything to keep that power and as long as we’re all divided they win we will always lose. Trump sucks, republicans suck, democrats suck, all politicians suck I think we can all agree on that.

Remember when MAGA ran on their campaign on this fear? Saying Obama would start a war with Iran? How Biden would start a war with Iran?

Then Trump pull from The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)aka Iran nuclear deal because it was simply associated with Obama? Crying he can make a better deal, then nothing because they didn’t take Trump seriosuly. Years of non-proliferation with Iran’s nuclear program gone. For what? A narcissist.

Yes. Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and ICE (yes, same thing) should be the first ones to sign up. But we know that’s not the plan. Than plan is to start a draft, send all other men there, then have ICE police the US in the meantime — a war on two fronts.

Then some sort of EO to bypass the midterm elections and the 2028 elections.

And to top it off, the fucker isn’t even spearheading this from the White House. He’s in Mar-a-Lago! Probably gonna golf today as well.

Ok Joe Rogan

One side is rabidly, belligerently evil and racist, the other is at worst complicit and toothless to stop them due to having the same financiers and donors. There is no "coming together to stop fighting for crumbs" when one side doesnt think certain groups of people even deserve to exist.

In matters both domestically and abroad it absolutely matters who the fuck the president is and you typed a whole shitload of absolutely nothing.

If we were smart we would ALL come together and fight back but instead we decide to fight over dumb politics when in all reality it’s all politicians that are being controlled by large corporations to tear us down.

I'd argue who is President actually does matter.   Alex Pretti and Renee Good would probably not of been shot by masked gestapo in cold blood if we didn't have the current President.  Cancer research would not of been cut by 35 percent, the Dept of Ed wouldn't be dismantled, we wouldn't be paying tariffs, and we wouldn't be bombing Iran.  That's off the top of my head I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

I think we should deploy ICE to go fight in Iran when the time comes.  See how they handle a real warzone instead of soccer moms and VA nurses.

I imagine this is what it would look like.

Also, this is not the news I wanted to wake up to, as we prepare to go to a birthday party for our Iranian friend whose family is all still over there.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Regime change makes no sense.  As one commentator put it: there may be a Mandela, but there’s no ANC.

After almost job no job growth in 2025, Trump decided to enact a military draft, giving millions of young men jobs — that will kill them.
