I would like to walk back my initial ambivalence to this war. This is a fucking disaster.
And, the fact that Trump is now asking for other countries to help America secure the Strait of Hormuz is fucking crazy. Even though Israel is the tail that wags the dog, America made the choice to enter this war. Trump and friends made the choice to ignore the military--who aren't idiot yes men--that said, there is a reason no one did this before.
Russia and China and Israel are the key beneficiaries to this whole excursion. American oil companies may make more profit for a while as they will get a higher price for their product without any extra work, but the rest of the world, including regular Americans (higher costs) and regular Iranians (the black rain in Tehran was just one of the many prices these people will face) who don't support the regime, will pay for this. And, I am skeptical that we see any sort of regime change in Iran.
The fact that Trump is now asking everyone else to send their navies to secure the strait is insane to me. He made the problem while he wanted to play global police officer and then wants everyone else to pick up the tab? Reminds me of the saying, "If you owe the bank 1K, it is your problem. If you owe the bank 100 million, it is the banks problem." There was a reason many banks wouldn't lend to this asshole. But, I suppose as long as Kushner is getting rich and the American oil companies make more profit, it is all worth it.
