How do you capture VX1000 footage in the highest quality?
« on: November 28, 2024, 10:43:34 AM »
I’ve been capturing all my footage in QuickTime with a burner capture camera, and editing in premiere. When I watch some vx videos that have come out recently the frames look so much smoother, and I generally try to film at the highest shutter speed possible. Also the footage generally looks a lot better through the viewfinder, by the time it gets onto my MacBook some quality seems to be lost. Let me know if you have any tips.

check your custom presets in camera. if i remember well i was 1 notch away from full saturation , 1 notch away from full sharpness. also the higher shutter speed doesn't mean you have the smoothest footage. I wouldn't go over 1/250, 1/500. You can use the ND filter.

to capture, a firewire cable linked to the pc (via a firewire card). using adobe premiere to capture, make sure you capture DV at 50i or 59,94i, lower field first.

color correct your footage.

export at 1440x1080 square pixels at 50p or 60p for youtube.

How do you feel about SD 60fps? I personally dislike it very much, it seems very off. I don’t like it with HD either but I can tolerate it, with SD is a big no for me.

to me 60fps mostly is for the youtube/ig compression algorithms so they don't completely butcher your less-than-modern footage, ends up looking way better once uploaded compared to 30fps

we used to watch VHS and DVDs on CRT televisions. It was looking fluid like the 60p on youtube. the OG look.

Always appreciate your posts in regards to exporting and how you do it, its helped me and my friends who film soo many times. Very rare for people in the industry to be so forthcoming on the matter.
