SOTY 2025 predictions

I know some of y’all will hate the idea of talking about next years SOTY, but I think it’ll be an interesting time capsule to see guess a year in advance.


I think Tyshawn is going to go for the third ring, the few clips I saw of him this year were as mind blowing as usual and he definitely values the award, he’s gotta be sitting on some footy going into 2025.

Lots of others I could see doing it but gonna stick to one guess.

Can’t see any of this year’s contenders making a serious run next year.  I also would be surprised if Nyjah ever bothered trying again after getting arguably robbed.

Tyshawn would be predictable, but I could just as easily see him focusing on more lucrative endeavours instead.

Yuto was quiet this year and has it in him, assuming he hasn’t gotten caught up in “drunk is fun”.

Louie also kept a low-ish profile, would be nice to see him bang us over the head and finally get one.

Pedro, Mason, Daan, GT, Ishod, and Kyle Walker can’t be counted out either. 

For it not to be one of the guys I’ve mentioned, I feel like someone would have to really level up and go nuts all year to take it.

I honestly hope so - read his Thrasher interview recently and it sounds like he found some good momentum this year. As long as he stays healthy and driven I could see him continuing to push it.

But realistically, way too early to tell lol.

Would be sick if they did "YOU" or a NOSOTY, let the outcries roll in, and then come back twice as hard next year for extra fuckery.

People hating on Berle dont understand Culture, they dont understand The Culture, and they've never understood what it is to do it For The Culture. 

I like Foy and Tiago more than Berle no doubt.  No one will talk about what they did this time next year, except to compare to whoever is making the run at that time.

TJ winning the second time might be something you disagree with but you cant deny the moments it brought us: switch ollie 2 times, celebratory backside flip the tracks.  Nor can you deny the heated debates that still take place, to this day, on these very boards: was Jah robbed?  is GH an alt-right wolf in sheep's clothing?

It is important to have people talking, and Berle, more than anyone else, did that in 2024.

Hayley got Slam Skater of the Year last year. She's got that Dunk colorway coming out and some other stuff next year.

I'd been hopeful for Rayssa, but it seems she's going the contest/influencer route. Can't blame her, that's the only way to make a real living out of this.

Like a separate award or over any male skater?   I think Georgia Martin or Momiji will get there in their careers, but next year might be a little soon for someone to have a legit claim on SOTY that doesn’t seem like a PR move (but I’d be happy to be wrong[u/])

If mariah duran puts out three or four full parts that could be the ticket. She has the best female street footy imo.

As a massive Louie fanboy, I hope I'm wrong, but realistically, I don't see him getting SOTY.

His 2022 was amazing, you could not ask for more. 2 of those 3 gems were released on Thrasher. He blends creativity, tech and spot selection like no other. He is inventive and unpredictable, which cannot be said for 2022 Tyshawn who one-ups himself as that same old spots.

I theorise Louie is missing some superficial attribute outside of his actual skating. Perhaps his image, or something to do with marketing. Or, perhaps the Thrasher 'powers that be' value harder tricks than they do an inventive ATV like Louie.

Regardless, them not having any semblance of a criteria is very fishy, and leads them to get away with questionable picks that end up devaluing the prestige of SOTY. 2022 was the year I lost faith in their decision making, T-Funk or even Nyjah deserved it more.

As for 2025, I wouldn't be surprised if Tyshawn got it. He would thrive off becoming the first to win it three times. He is well able to outdo himself as he did in 2018 and 2022. And most importantly, he ticks the Thrasher boxes, whatever the hell they are.
