That movie is peak early 2000’s nightmare. Will Ferrell (& Adam Sandler while we’re at it) at their height of popularity were truly abhorrent examples of pop culture comedy.
Merry Christmas & happy holidays to most of you.
will ferrell is trash but i will not tolerate this disrespect towards adam sandler, on the first night of hanukkah no less
Hit a hot button with me there (and Hanukkah starts Christmas night)
Adam Sandler makes garbage movies (I’m talking Adam Sandler/Happy Madison movies that he sticks his friends and family and wife into - not his rare Punch Drunk Love or Uncut Gems). Sony hacks revealed employees of the company were literally embarrassed to be in the business of making his movies (dreck like Pixels had just come out) and he was forced to become a Netflix star because movie audiences were too embarrassed to be seen in public watching his movies so Netflix is the black bag hiding the porno mag purchases that is watching Hubie Halloween, Ridiculous 6, or You Are So Not Invited to My Bar Mitzvah. Try watching Eight Crazy Nights and see how that stacks up to WF’s lesser Christmas movie Spirited Away. Not to mention he’s a republican and still supports his goofy/problematic right wing friends like Rob Schneider and Kevin James who hate trans people (while Will Ferrell did the amazing Will & Harper). Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates are fine, but he’s never getting back to those, but instead we’re getting Happy Gilmore 2 with Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny!
Not saying Will Ferrell always hits them out of the park, but he has at least a respectable batting average and certified classics. Dude was killing it in Austin Powers and Zoolander before he was even a name. Adam Sandler can still be funny. Enjoyed his recent special on Netflix. Problem is he puts zero effort into his movies and admits he’s done a ton of them as an excuse to take a paid vacation - which is cool for him, but kind of a fuck you to people who had to pay to watch Blended, Just go for it, etc
1. every movie with will ferrell in it is funny in spite of will ferrell's presence, not because of it, whereas every funny movie with adam sandler is funny because he's funny and fairly charismatic. ferrell is a rizz vacuum with two good characters, the guy in wedding crashers and bitch hunter
2. will ferrell has never made the successful jump to drama and will never be in a single movie as good as uncut gems, which is a powerhouse performance that counts for at least five
3. will ferrell has been in plenty of clunkers, especially lately, their batting averages are probably fairly close. you're telling me you love strays?
4. sandler's politics aren't great but he's a middle aged dude from bensonhurst, at least he has the common sense to keep them to himself - and, like others have said, to NOT work with fucking mel gibson and mark wahlburg in the 2020s
