I think it’s they dislike the vibe killing aspect of being around people who are filming at the park but then they’ll go home and watch the end result of others doing that at other parks

Yep exactly.

Worst of all are the old guys who set up their gorilla tripods to film their 100 pathetic attempts that aren't anywhere close.  And the camera is always in the way, on a bank or ledge or something, I guess because the "convenient" gimmick tripods have no height. And no, not talking about one guy that annoys me, it's like a trend.

The scoot kids usually do follow cam with a phone which is way less annoying but still I worry about me being in the footage and where it's going. Because while I may feel like I'm GT when I'm skating, I'm well aware I actually look nothing  like him. No one needs to see that, and I certainly don't want to see it myself.

But if I come home and see that Dan Corrigan has been shooting && at some park, annoying everyone there, I'm watching.

Perhaps one day, when you too have your multiple mini drones hovering around you to get the 3-D vid of your failing legs trying to do some manual trick, May the kids practicing their double corks on the fly-out your drones are blocking be much kinder to their elders

Snowboarding is rad.

The older I get the more I like it compared to skateboarding.

Easier on the body.

With some planning, you can make it more affordable. But the season, and being 3 hours away from a lift definitely makes it less convenient than skateboarding.

Definitely nope. Knees get beyond fucked.

Sounds like your local needs an enforcer.
Be the change, if someone sets up a tripod that's gonna get in everyone's way, approach them and (politely!) ask if they would please move their camera. If they refuse, set their car on fire.

The silver ones are pretty gross, but the more standard colorways look great, imo. I’m just happy I can finally support Louie since I can’t wear vulc shoes anymore.

That's entirely dependent on how you engage with each activity.

I mostly skate street stuff, ledges, rails, ect. And that def hurts my knees more than the type of snowboarding I engage in.

I can see how absolutely ripping on a snowboard could trash your knees, I'm just not good enough to experience that.

I have not, since I do a bit of freestyle (small jumps, side hits, small boxes/rails)

And am trying to get better at 180s and riding switch.

Currently running +18 -6 I think.

It’s like saying you can’t flip your board on anything bigger than an 8 or can’t skate switch on a shaped board… you can but….whatever you’re telling yourself is prolly what works best….seems to be the koolaide I’m drinking at least..

After having some knee problems skating you realize that with skating, you’re always on a kick tail so your back  knee will somewhat always pronate.  The front  knee takes most of the beating but your back knee if ducked takes a direct hit inward/pronation.  When I went posi posi it just meant my back knee pushed inwards less and could freely bend forward more…..so less pain for me. I’m just happy getting down a run maybe hitting some small park jumps…

Calling a skate scene a "community" is newspeak for clique. I'm sure there's good deeds being done in terms of mental health, aside from that I've always felt like an outsider whenever I went to local diy and helped out from Maine to Oregon, it felt too cool/cool guyed out as opposed to welcoming. Keep your community and eat shit.

Not everyone you come across will be examples of this but skateboarding certainly fits the definition of community in my experience. All of the friends and connections I’ve made just because of this thing we all love to ride have significantly changed the path of my life throughout the years. Without skateboarding I wouldn’t have met the friends that led me to meet my wife who I now have a beautiful family with. Plus all of the people I’ve connected with because of skateboarding that have led to opportunities and generally just feeling like I’m a part of something that not everyone gets access to. Maybe you have a bad attitude or just expecting too much? That last bit leads me to believe maybe it’s just you

Maybe you're right, I've always kept that in mind. Maybe it's me and I've done my part to help out in many scenes throughout building and support through contributions to various projects.

I'm only speaking from a view of bitterness when I felt my time was wasted with energy and support to have city tear down a diy spot.
