I think Billy Marks rubs mud all over his fresh setup instead of sanding down the grip. I saw it in a Jenkem article not sure if it's true.

A little off topic but reminds me of how I used to put a little wax on the nose of my board for better flick / norths - from the bottom two bolts covering all the area all the way up. Don't do it anymore but sometimes my grips a little dirty and I don't mind because I used to have it way worse. I don't really like grippy grip tho, probably just me. Where I'm from everyone's grip is about as muddy as that haha.

Doesn't work for me. Dirty grip drives me insane.
But I'm a little neurotic on the board, I hyper fixate on anything that could be considered a distraction.
Like, if there's a leaf on the ground 4' away from the ledge I'm skating, I have to stop and kick it out of the way.
If there's a big spot of mud on my grip, I fixate on it.

Can't help it, it's just what my brain does.

To be clear, I don't mind some dust and minor spots or wax or dirt.
But if my grip looked like this...

I'd throw that deck in a bonfire.

If I had 1/100th of that dirt on my deck I'd be done with it. More power to ya.

regular/fakie and switch/nollie is a false dichotomy that only applies to stationary flatground tricks. regular/nollie and switch/fakie is a more logical way of classifying stances

What's the benefit of putting these four things into two groups?

Are you saying the benefit is a feeling of belonging?

Omg I'd be tweaking out with grip gum or thrown it away. My neuroticism and OCD is giving me anxiety through this image. Definitely feel uncomfortable after seeing this here.

Can you explain why you think it's more logical? I'm genuinely curious.

I feel like they both are equally logical. (Regular/fakie - switch/nollie) makes sense regarding what your feet are doing trick-wise. (Regular/nollie - switch/fakie) makes sense regarding the stance/direction you're currently in.

regular/fakie + switch/nollie makes sense in terms of footwork but the momentum that comes from skating throws that for a loop. i find that regular/nollie + switch/fakie makes more sense to me because when you do a trick (especially ledge tricks) regular/nollie or switch/fakie, you're likely to stay in that stance. I.E. if you do a fakie 5-0 you're popping fakie but throwing down switch, grinding switch, and landing switch... the theoretical "opposite" trick (a regular 5-0) isn't gonna be much help. meanwhile a nollie nosegrind is just a nosegrind that you nollie into and not really like a switch 5-0 at all. does that make sense?

I see what you mean, but still not convinced that either convention is more logical than the other for all trick types. I'm no expert on skateboarding nomenclature history, but I think there's enough inconsistencies that deciding what's more logical is pointless.

oh yeah fully. when i was typing that out i realized i could make just as much of an argument for nollie/fakie and switch/regular.

Generally, once it’s on, I don’t fuxx w/ the grip at all, but I’m gonna need to quote Xoflipxo here; “Could neva be me.”
100% would NOT step back on my board until that shit was either rinsed of my hooves, or it had dried, cracked & crumbled away.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

we need more music diversity in skate footage, skate parts just cycle through the same kinda songs, rock, punk, jazz, hip hop.
Fuck safe Choices, throw in some House or straight up fucking ambient sounds if it fits the footy vibe.
That being said, remember Bronze 56k "Trust", shit was majestic with that Windows 95 intro, weird electronic beats and overall chaotic sound through the whole video

Drum and bass needs to make a return. Watch that one demo in Harsh Barge where mcCrank loses his shit and starts doing switch back lips just thinking about how the edit would turn out. Shit was beast.
The last thing skateboarding needs is another part to Band of Horses (even Guy couldn’t get away with that shit) or belle and sebastian like it’s 2007.

homie, loads of edits over the last 5 years have used dnb/jungle - almost none have used twee or anthemic indie. this is the opposite of an unpopular opinion. this is wishing for exactly what's been on trend to be on trend.

i don't disagree w/ u, but that's the kind of the point.

Think u just need to watch more vids bro. Plenty of house / ambient, among all the others you've mentioned, plus more.

And here I was thinking ambient / industrial / soundscape stuff was the default skate video sound in 2025. Either that or some screamo.

This isn't necessarily related to skating but I can't stand the term "An oral history of___". It just sounds very pretentious from the writer and patronizing to the subject matter.

Monkey see, monkey do. People see a format or technique that appears successful and they recreate it. It’s the same reason why every youtube video right now is called “the *blank* situation is crazy”
