IDK man... it's not always about the tricks difficulty on paper for me, and I'm assuming others. Rather see a clean kickflip then a messy switch tre. Style, the way it was filmed, what they were wearing, preceding / following trick, music playing...

Rather see an ollie from Heath then any clip from Austyn, but that's just me... probably.

I get what you’re saying and I’ve held similar opinions about other tricks and spots but I guess my unpopular opinion here is that Austyn has better style than Heath, and I’ve been a Heath fan since Rolling Thunder. But no one has ever uttered his name in the “best” style discussions like Gino, Carroll, etc. Would I rather see a new part today from Heath than Austyn?  Yes. Is Austyns skating easier on the eyes for me?  Also yes.

If we’re talking hammer era I’d say Heath was up there with one of the best styles. Yes Gino and Carroll are style gods but they were skating mostly low impact stuff. Heath was pushing boundaries with big spots and NBD’s at the time. The front lip on El Toro in The End, the back noseblunt the UCI rail in Sight Unseen are as stylish as it gets imo.

He might be an alleged dickhead but at least he’s not boring. Also sometimes (a lot of times) the dickhead allegations come from the kind of people who can’t fathom why someone they think they’re entitled to interact with doesn’t respond with sunshine and rainbows. Nothing about T-funk makes me think I should ask him for a picture or an autograph and I like it that way.

Really curious to hear the logic behind this - how tf are you supposed to take your bolts off when you’re switching out decks lol. Bolts are also a helpful “reference point” for identifying where your feet are on the deck.

The only thing I can think of as a legitimate arguing point for this is when you have new bolts on a new deck and the head of the bolt slightly protrudes from the deck surface. I guess in theory this could mess with  popping/flicking trajectory? Gripping over bolts could mitigate that very subtle interference I guess. In my experience, bolts tend to settle in after a session or two and I like being able to see them personally lol.

I know a lot of people really liked Random hardware or hardware where you just use the socket.  I think gripping over might actually work without getting the twisties.  Skating the V8’s I was thinking the fastest way to move the truck and I thought this might work.

I grip over bolts. It looks so clean. Especially when you want to do a graphic.

I think the idea of seeing your bolts may help you starting out, but it’s one of those concepts that gets repeated but never questioned. Do you really need to see your bolts? You can’t tell based on feel?

I can tell which way my board is facing just by reading my pink grip tape.  If it says "SHAKE JUNT" then I am skating the tail.
