I like scraped 5-0s more than balanced.
[close]
Even on ledges? What about with a trick out? How about nosegrinds?
[close]

On ledges too. Balanced is harder and you can grind further, but scraped sounds and looks cooler to me.

Shoveled nosegrinds are unpleasant to me.

For some reason, when I think of balanced 5-0's I think of Spitfire tablet shaped wheels, thunders, and grizzly grip. Maybe it's only regional to one of the local parks I go to.

Balanced 5-0 on a skatepark or perfect marble ledge, scrape on a more haggard ledge is where its at.

this might be a popular unpopular opinion: skateboarding or the industry as it is may cease to exist in 100 years time

this might be a bit pessimistic who knows. Maybe not me since i spend too much time on the puter these days instead of skating now that I'm old.
i gotta get off this fuckin website

I can get behind this. Contrary to what some guy upthread was saying I can balance 5-0s and occasionally do on a perfect ledge or curb. But when you see Jamie Thomas doing one on like a crusty 15 foot ledge it’s like - dude, just relax already. It’s not that big of a deal, I don’t care what Sal said.

Recently the scrapers tend to go slightly suski grind which is way better looking than a balanced 5-0

A couple years ago I decided to re tool my 5-0s, switching from straight over the top balanced to tail scrape suski style and love how they work.    Can really stretch them out cranked to the side like that.   And they're nice and risky.  Can really get bodied if you miss the lock in.

Probably not the most unpopular opinion ever, but cross lock grinds just bother me so much

Was thinking this today, at least on a ledge. A rail I can understand

I dunno how controversial that is, the consensus on cross lock 50/50s seems to be about 50/50.

I doubt 1:17 would look as good if he did a perfectly balanced "manual" 5-0

Chunk demands Scrape.

I'd say this is a pretty good guideline.

Wider the trucks = worse the cross lock looks.

Anything over 149 looks heinous when cross locked. And 149s can look pretty weird depending on the rest of the setup and spot the grind is done on.

maybe when you have a really specific groove on your hanger from grinding pool coping (combined with really small wheels)
but it's actually not a thing

I see this most often on Long ledge/curb grinds where eventually one truck starts to slip off and moves to the opposite wheel locking it in, and they ride the rest of it out that way.

I've def done this on very long grinds.

That’s not necessarily true. See David Gravette’s crazy kinked rail grind. It’s got 9 kinks in it and he’s heel locked the entire way down. It can be done without the cross lock, people just like to take the easy way out.

A balanced 5-0 only is only cool if you’re grinding a long distance like Crob at the LA courthouse out ledge. Hate to use Crob as an example of what’s cool but you get the point

quite a few big kinkers done by dudes like foy, ducky, braden hoben that would be pretty much impossible without cross lock
