When I had to take the bus and train to work I got into yo-yos, not sure if folks still respect it or if unpopular, but it was cool to learn basics tricks while waiting at the stops.

Paddling.  Canoes and kayaks.   Mixes well with camping.   I'm a dad and that kind of stuff is what our family vacations are centered on.  Great for balance and working out different muscles

Surfing is fun but surfers are lame
D&D is fun
Backpacking is fun but I prefer easy trails

Bowling is fun but not for me because I have big hands and weak arms so the bowling alleys never have a ball I find comfortable

I joined my first D&D group recently. I created a character, then two people in the group had a big falling out and now hate each other. It's divided the group and we still haven't played.

Feel like I did a speed-run on the full experience?

Playing guitar and street photography are my hobbies but I don’t know if I should count street photography because wedding photography is my job, so it’s like an extension of my job.

bowling is a better hobby than fishing and golf and more skaters should embrace it
[close]

Bowling is easy, and quite possibly the most boring thing ever. Not to mention the total lack of exercise and movement. Roll, sit down, wait, repeat.

Fishing is close to boring, but at least your outside learning, and practicing how to outsmart your prey every time, in a different environment every time. Catch and release ALWAYS.

Golf is king. Good luck mastering that shit. And you have to (should) walk 6 miles. It's actually funny how many people can't compress a golf ball towards a target.

Just my take, enjoy the lanes broski
[close]
what's the exercise in golf again? swinging a stick and walking to and from a go-cart while dressed like a fucking dweeb?

It's called walking, and you have a 30lb bag on your back. Did you know golf courses have hills too?

I for one, would say some of the "fits" these days in skateboarding are just as bad, if not worse. To each their own. Shalom
You all getting spoon fed a comfortable place.

I thought Slap would be the last place I'd see a snarky defender of golf. Shit seems boring as hell but maybe fun to goof off with your friends for a bit. There's no way it's good exercise though.

Kinda bringing it back to the original topic - would you guys consider skating a form of exercise? I have this discussion with my friends a lot, bcuz I'd say it's not really. Like it obviously keeps you active but if you told me you've been working out and I'm like "damn leg day?" And your like "nah man 2 hr skate sesh" im gonna be like... yeah u were smokin a blunt for a good half of that hahaha. Little short bursts of running and jumping kinda counterbalanced by the abhorrent lifestyle.

Skating (if you actually do it during a session) is one of the best forms of exercise out there. Mad cardio, balance, coordination, and strength. Pushing on a skateboard will keep you more limber than 90% of the bullshit things people pay their trainers to beg them to do.

Also, this is an unpopular opinion in my real life but walking about a mile + a couple times a week is literally the best all around exercise for anyone. No one believes this but it is 100% true.

Hi.
My name is Lou & I’m here for the D&D convo.

Level 12 Monk (Way of the Open Hand) checking in.
I think I tried starting a D&D thread over in Whatever a long time ago and it flopped pretty hard (0 comments)

Pretty close, would've been nice to get the final hit on a big boss at least once before the fallout.

Unpopular opinion - White Bones wheels are best because they're super bright white and stay super bright white forever, they don't turn that ugly orangish-yellowish color.

Skateboarding is great exercise if you actually make an effort.

also golf is fun and it makes sense why it attracts skaters seeing as they're both so technique based and rooted in your own individual skill. It's just another thing to do.

As someone that's in his 30s now I'd say anything else that's fun and physical. Like others here, I love hiking and camping. Having a genuine appreciation for nature just makes life so much better in general.

Cycling/trail riding is becoming more prominent in my life too. It's good exercise but mostly I enjoy the adventure and how it makes me feel like a kid again just exploring random places.

Since the introduction of the new Bones formula wheel, I’ve noticed a lot of extremely white wheels in skateboarding videos, which conspiratorially believe are Spitfire pros rubbing the Bones logo off in order to get a trick at a super crusty spot.

Honestly I kinda like the faded off-white color that Spits get. They look cool in the same way that an old set of trucks look cool. But I have always wondered why they don't just dye them more white if they can dye pretty much any other color.

That might be a dumb question, but idk man, I just buy the dang things.

Or then Spitfire pros ride new wheels that are still white?

Johnny Wilson is mostly a traditional roadie, right? I know from my LA bike friends that Axel Cruysberghs, when he was still living in LA, was basically not skating at all and was fully into the load road riding scene. And of course there is Louie Lopez, who is effectively sponsored by Crust Bikes.

It’s been a few years since I played- have you tried the updates?
Yep. New updates are fun & add some variety.
Started playing again in the last few years to have another fun indoor activity to engage my two boys with on rainy days, etc, so they aren’t face down in a screen for hours on end.
Just recently rolled up a new character after building an exhaustive backstory for him.
As chance would have it, I, like @GnarAlarm am a Monk, though I’m still only Level 1 & as such, I've not (yet) designated which monastic tradition I’m an adherent of, since I’ve not even completed our first campaign w/ this new guy. Suffice to say, he’ll also be a disciple of The Way of the Open Hand when the time comes, in order to fit the storyline I've created for him.
I was having trouble finding a figurine that represented the specifics I wanted, so I initially built one out of Lego mini-figure parts & it came out rad, but then my kids showed me that Hero Forge website where you can custom build your own character figurine & have it 3D-printed for a stupid amount of money, so… I did THAT.
Poor guy is practically naked in the wilderness w/ no armor beyond textile garments & a small hatchet & grain flail/thresher to protect himself with.
It’s been a lot of fun so far & im looking forward to rolling a lot of dice while the family & I are on vacation together in a couple weeks.
Wholesome fun.

Have you ever used the ezd6 system? It's very light on mechanics so its super adaptable to basically any setting. Our current campaign is a fantasy wild west train journey and it's fucking great

Hey that's awesome, I got a Hero Forge mini also, full color. It was like $50 but I've been using it for almost 3 years now in our Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign, so I'd say it was worth it.
Props for starting at level 1, I occasionally DM for my girl and her friends, I just start them at level 3 so I don't have to worry about them dying from stubbed toes and paper cuts in the first session.
