Killed me with the Winnie the Pooh comparison, yeah that's the first part of his I saw. Or at least that I remember rewatching and rewatching. And managing to associate yourself with a trick like a switch bigflip is no easy.

Ben D videos stopped being helpful after 2019. Maybe it’s what the YouTube hivemind wanted but around that point, his videos became more of an ode and narration to himself

Respect the opinion but penalty of fame/being a big name is probably the case here? In general he's only gotten better since the 917 vid.

Max has pigeon-holed himself into that guy who skates those bumpy planter railings in NYC and as the "losi grind" guy. Very gimmicky. He showed some promise with his spitfire part but then reverted back to his old ways.

Both AA and Max have the same appeal- they are taking a different, low key approach to skating that stood out after the hammer fest/big video era. A lot of "normal" skaters aren't doing the most beastly or tech tricks, but often looking to skate approachable spots in interesting ways.

That's kinda the appeal of slappy/curb skating. Even if it's not your jam, there are spots literally everywhere and you can do a lot of strange combos that might not be "cool" in a normal sense, but feel fun doing them or might be a bit out of the ordinary.

With that said there's only so much you can watch of the same thing. I liked the newer AA footage after his injuries and Max's first 3 parts, but now it feels like a re-heated microwave dinner.

I feel there are way too much trucks models and variations on the market.
We have Lows, Highs, hollows, inverted kingpins, titanium, 8 holes, cast, forged.
I really feel half of it is just gimmicky and brands should focus on doing less products and do them better (i.e. better bushings, better quality control, better pivot cups, etc.). It's a good metaphor of current economy, in a way we don't need half of the products/features we have, but just more durable/thoughts products, but that cannot work because our economy model needs constant replacement/renewal of products to survive.

I hear what you're saying and agree, but that's the devil's advocate for consumerism/capitalism fomo if you will.

Its had its hand on me in some capacity, I've felt that to combat this is buying secondhand from depop or from other Pals on here or visiting a shop to see if someone got something used, broken hanger or baseplate? buy a decent set and replace parts I know it's not supporting a shop but I'm sure if you have a local someone at the shop would be willing to sell a decent old trucks or give them away.

I don’t enjoy most of Aimu’s footage. Every time he lands it looks like his hands are in his pockets. Reminds me of that chill guy meme. Very smooth skater but not in a Antwuan or Herman type of way. Big pop but he doesn’t have that raw power like Tiago or Westgate. The overly baggy kits don’t help either. Talented young fellow though. Seems like he’s fully on NB# now and getting a lot of attention.

I remember some interview with Lance Mountains and some other skaters about Koston (maybe for one of his Nike shoes?) and the question was about Koston’s “dork tricks” and whether Lance liked them. He was basically like “No because I know how good he is and what he could do be doing so it just seems like a waste”. Obviously said in more of a funny Lance way.
