i dont know much about cameras but lookign at that thing id say its just two cameras. maybe that big block thing is the hard drive where the footage is overlapped or whatever, i really cant imagine the point of having two seperate cameras an inch away like that. so this post was pretty much useless. but hd cameras dont have to be big, there's tiny hd palmcorders and shit now.

On the camera topic: how are 3d movies filmed?
i've done a 3d project in photography where you use the blue and red glasses to view them- to make the photo, however, requires two cameras very close to each other pointed in the exact same direction taking a photo (or in this case, perhaps, video) at the exact same time. then we would overlay the two images with, making one red and the other blue while keeping real colour tones subtly in the background (this was all done through an application, so i don't really know the mechanics behind the overlay).
but i'm pretty sure it would be a possibility with that video camera, but not sure if that's what its for
