I used to have them, then got lazer eye surgery a few years back - if you're short sighted it's really worth looking into as it works
How much did that cost you? And have you noticed any negative side effects or anything?
It wasn't too bad - the surgery has come down in price loads, so it was a few thousand £ I think - but I think it's come down a lot further since. I rationalised that I was breaking glasses at such a rate that I would eventually save money by having the surgery
The surgery itself was ok; I was too scared to have contacts (have a phobia about things touching my eyes) but they put anaethetic in my eyes so I didn't even feel what they were doing; it felt like I was blinking the whole time (it lasted about ten mins)
As for recommending it; yes I would - I was REALLY short sighted before, proper bottle top lenses and everything - to the extent that they had to go a step further with my surgery as just lasering the front of my eyes wasn't sufficient. It took a couple of days to heal, then I could basically see! It was weird having peripheral vision at first, and not having the glasses job in front of me etc, and weird not wearing glasses any more (I'd worn them for life, so it was weird being able to wake up in the morning and see what time it was, being able to see in the shower etc).
Since then I've passed my driving test (last year) without glasses, so my eyes have held up for at least 5 years + with no problems
They also left me slightly short-sighted on the grounds that everyone gets long sighted when they get old, so my eyes should balance out and I should not need glasses later either
THE ONLY side effect is that it's made me slightly astigmatic; ie at night you get tracers off of lights and slightly worse night vision - so I do wear realy low prescription glasses when I drive at night (the only time I do) - but that's just me being carefull rather than anyone saying I have to. They did warn me about this when doing all the pre-op tests though, and said that was mroe particular to me rather than a general thing - so I went in with my eyes open so to speak and still think it is well worth it!
