Ceramic Bearings
« on: January 04, 2008, 08:35:19 AM »
Been thinking about trying them for years but never took the plunge and always go with bones swiss.

Anyone try ceramics? Are they worth the cash?

I hate you because you're a douche who thinks he's hot shit for getting flowed Ninja bearings. And, you're avatar is one of my favorite happy places and you stole that from me by associating your nancy-ass self with it.

I do know some shit. Not nearly enough, but some things. Like, that you're reply was pretty much a go skate mixed with a shot at my sexuality. Pretty weak. I get free stuff because I'm respected. That means a whole lot more to me. I bet I smile more when I skate.

If you get inspired to skate a certain way, how concerned are you with its popularity or acceptability within the skate world
I thought skating was popular and acceptable in the skate world. Maybe I didn't get that press release.

Yep, 6 balls. I think the idea is that each larger ball in the sixes has more rolling surface, so that helps reduce heat, which kills speed, or some shit. I have the sixes; they seem pretty nice. I clean 'em though, too.

I use one of those Bones cleaners that's like a little waterbottle with a post in it to hold the bearings. I think they're like $10. Put the bearings on the post, pour some acetone or denatured alcohol in the bottle, and shake. It seems to clean them pretty well. Then speed cream to lube.

My neighbor uses brake clean (spelled brak clen?) that he gets from the auto parts store to clean his bearings, and that seems to work really well.

Yeah same here. Just push harder. I don't think faster bearings can make you a better skater. I think this is almost the same type of thing as high-tech decks and tensor sliders. Little kids get their parents to buy them when they get their 300 dollar completes. That being said, I would gladly try some out for free.

Ok, let me read between the lines then.  YOu're a free loading looser that rides the coat tails of people around you that actually DO shit.  Oh, my smile is way bigger because I don't take hand outs from the people around me who feel sorry for me like they obviously do for you.

Bargain Shopper, you're a clown.  I bet you sit at home with your ugly ass girlfriend hoping that she looked like the porn you beat off too.  Yeah, I remember, you think she's hot, but actually she's not.  Who needs to know how to spell when you've got spell check on MS Word?  Oh, and by the way, here's a lesson that you might not understand.   GET A CLUE.

True, but cruising around on some super smoothies is really nice. I haven't taken the ceramic plunge yet myself, but i might when i'm over my current set of swiss.

I just looked for swiss/reds comparisons on the board, found a funny post from beautitroll:

Don't be fuckin' stupid.  Basically Swiss have removable shields that are made of a flexible material.  Ninjas still use metal shields, and they are totally unremovable.  Have you ever had those things cave in?  They make your shit super slow.  The quality and manufacturing might be good for ninja, but design wise, they're stuck in the past.  I think maybe if you are a long boarder, the mini ninjas might be your thing.  REal street skaters stick to the swiss.

The real question is, how do the swiss six balls compare to the regular ones?

i'm not thinking it'll make me a better skater and i'm not a spoiled kid, i'm 35. i was just thinking about how stoked i was when i recently switched to swiss bearings after getting a free hook up for them (always rolled reds before) and that gave me an appreciation for the difference that quality bearings make in how fun it is just to roll around on your board, regardless of what tricks your into.

My trucks are probably looser... And, so you don't have to read between any lines, here's how my hook up works. I e-mail/call friends that I've made through working in the industry regularly, not just when I need stuff, to say hello and catch up. Friends do that sort of thing. They inevitably offer to send me stuff, if needed. I turn down most of the offers for free stuff because I don't need it. And, I hook my friends up with some of my free stuff. I spread the love. Just like I'm doing with you. You need tough love. I'm here to give it to you.

BTW, Bones Swiss 6 are probably the best I've ever had. Had them for 2 years now but I do clean them every so often. Oh, and Beautiful, I bought them if that makes you feel better.
