I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure Crail/lakai just got investors, Rick and Mike are at least part owners
[close]

They got investors in the form of a gigantic global investment firm, not a cool sk8r dude with some money. The company also owns health and auto insurance companies, other investment firms, and walk-in clinics among others. So yeah, put your money where it makes a difference! Give it to Altamont Capital Partners.

Still part skater owned/still money for rick and mike, still way better than nike.

and who took sales away from the true core brands so they were forced to take in investors to survive?

If you're going to excuse every corporate move by every company that isn't Nike, why not just say "Fuck Nike because I don't like them" instead of the shitty justification? I'm not sticking up for Nike or anything, it's just that your argument has been made so many times by so many people, and it's too weak to keep listening to.

This is how I feel.  Currently I have a few pair of Es, Adidas, Nike, Huf, Vans and even a pair of Globe sitting here so I just spread the love, haha.  And honestly the quality of all skate brands went up a lot after Adidas/Nike came in as they were forced to to have a chance at competing.  So I hope that when it's all over if the big corps pull out we will be left with higher quality shoes from the skater influenced companies that are left.  And we've been here before ... some will make it

yeah i feel like there is a question- for example fallen started off pretty good as far as i remember, holding up well but i got the feeling they(as other "skater owned" brands) started to get shittier quality over time and the n nike stepped in. since then it seems to me every brand has to regain a level of quality. i feel like lakai does great work, same goes for emerica. both brands got long lasting and/or innovative shoes-
(herman G6 and new lakai vulcs last more than great- even better than nike vulc wich seems the highest standard vulc to people around me.)
havenīt skated huf cause my main concern is how long the sole lasts on the bottom. here lake rules. cardboard aside, every pair was great. emetic cups never disappoint (me), but itīs kinda whatever floats your boat. it all depends on flick, how the shoe fits and what type you are looking for. sometimes the shoe that appeals to you the most is just not lasting for you, you know?

i hope itīs understandable because english is not my first language!

oh DC are lasting by the way.....got some EVAN SMITH- who asked before?

fuck nike, but fuck every one else too for making shit shoes. why cant we just have a sick brand that makes good shoes? it seems like the cooler a brand gets, the worse theyre shoes get.

and lakais suck dick dont even try that shit they literally have a piece of cardboard between your foot and the sole. i cant even take them seriously.

I've been skating nothing but Lakai's since I first tried the Griffin about 2-2.5 years ago, this is simply not true...

they only seem good because you havent tried any other shoes for the last 2 - 2.5 years. sorry.

Lakai has been making fantastic shoes, both cupsole and vulc, since 2012 and I've tried plenty of other brands for comparison. I wouldn't really expect a teenager with a berrics avatar to know any better, though, so don't stress it.

what lakai shoes? tell me. they look good sure, but theres no denying, they use cheaper materials than nike, and a cardboard sole is the worst option for an kind of shoe. the insoles arent any good either, they provide little protection and flatten out really quick. im not talking shit on the brand, but the shoes they make arent worth the price at all. and why would you assume im a teenager? also what does a berrics avatar matter? bet youre the kinda guy who doesnt skate for fun.

cause you stated it in another thread duh!

also wich shoes: lakai marc, the new ones with the long toe box last hella long, work really good!
lakai riley might be the sturdiest vul out right now and looks pretty good.
only heard good things about lakai xlk sole performance wise....lasting i donīt know.
lakai camby- hanging with a younger dude a lot skating lately and he destroyed a janoski shoe in 2-3 sessions, skating the campy heavily for 3 weeks now.

and i do not think that lakai is using shitty materials at all- MY experience!

I had a pair of the Pico XLK and they lasted super long and were really comfy. Also cost like 1/3 of what a full priced Nike shoe would.

15 and a half? thought it would be obvious that was a joke. thats like what a child will tell you when you ask them about there age.
any ways im reffering to the vulcs. i have a pair of cambys. they look good but are pretty much shit. sole was completely flat in a week. no support and ZERO impact protection. gonna try and kill them off with some footprints. the sole is okay though. i skated a pair of lindens, the xlk model, the sole was bald in a week. and there is no way you can destroy a pair of janoskis in 3 sessions and have the cambys for a week. unless you stop skating when the upper gets a hole.

just a word of advice on lakais, they changed their factory after they left podium 3 or so years ago so if they say made in china do not buy them. they're dog shit. the ones made in korea are amazing and last super long.

Damn, best colorway too!! The retail is 150 in the US? Crazy! They arent as pricey here... I think 110 euros, less than a janoski max (130).

yea, but who initially sold in bulk discount to the mall stores and undercutted skate shops for that Zumiez/mall shop money?  the "skate" brands definitely do not have clean hands nor have they always had the local shop's interests in mind.

there are no good politics in the shoe arena.  just buy what you want to wear.  support who you want to support.

Same, the heel area feels plastic-like. Probably the flywire. Hopefully they last. It's a real low-profile shoe.

Nike's profit margin must be crazy if they can take 75% off a shoe and still make money.

Would prefer they make $80 Blazers over than tech cupsoles like that. Regardless that's a great deal.

The reviews on the Nike site say the heel padding is shit which is goofy since they are supposed to be one of their more cushioned models. Never seen one in a store.

I'd still like to try an 8 if I could get one of the less shitty colors.

I just take my old shoes that have a blown out toe or have worn through the sole, cut up the unused suede from the inside part of the shoe and superglue it on the shoe I'm skating at the time. It isnt as pleasing aesthetically but far easier. If you want I can post pics.

Top: Emerica Reynolds Cupsole
Bottom: Converse Weapon Skate

Rotated these two over the past season along with Vans Slip-On Pro and Sk8-Hi's, and gotta say I totally prefer the cupsole on both of these.

Both shoes skate great and have great durability. The Reynolds needed to be shoe-goo'd, but still flick great. Both are comfy as hell as well. Highly recommend both of these shoes. Will be skating cupsole exclusively from here on out I imagine. Trying the Sal 20s next, depending on how I like those I may go back to one of these two.

yeah, i followed the guide to make some Lucas Pro Courts ...

... with approx 5 coats, the plasti dip toe gave the shoe an extra 4 hours of skating before it started to show the suede again.  it's really just a smidge more effective than say, super-glue or well-placed shoe goo

... but still waiting for the call from the Adidas design dept. saying I helped them create the world's most perfect rubber toe shoe
