P Rod Opened a Skate Shop Today
« on: July 27, 2008, 06:57:30 PM »
it's a boutique style shop.  sneaker heads are going to love it.  the skate shop side of it is pretty minimal.  i'll post some photos later if I get around to it.  not my steez.

pretty much just sells companies that he rides for.  plus stussy, elwood, new balance, alife, lakai and maybe a couple more that i didn't notice.

How is that possible? It's not that I don't believe you, just... how is that possible? Have you not been skating long, or is it just the area in which you live?

i agree.  boutique shops are hella gay.  As much as I think Huf is a cool dude and respect him, HUF the shop is too foofy.

Seeing Pitcrew for the first time psyched me out.  They've done really well and still remain a real skate shop.

I want the street wear fad to die.

Good for him. Elitest "skate but don't skate" hipsters are where all of the money is at these days -- that is, if you can handle seeing "limited" Nike SBs, Mac laptops, and overpriced "fair trade" coffees everyday without seriously injuring someone.

Imagine how hilarious it would be if when one of those kids gave you attitude, you smashed there Mac laptop, and threw there "limited edition" shoes over a power line right in front of them.

I guess I missed the "skateboardtique" part. I read that as "sounds like every skateboard shop I've ever been in".

I have a question: Why are there so many bitter little kids on the forum these days? I guess it is summer vacation...

Btw, I don't even wanna know what "hundreds tee" means, but I am not taking off my shirt for you, if that's what you mean.

It called Primitive, and its on Ventura Blvd in Tarzana. Carries Nike, Elwood, Crooks and Castles, The Hundreds, Stussy, Alife. Its definitely more of a boutique than skateshop, but he's got some good people behind the shop. Best of luck to him.

don't knock the limited & streetwear game inside skateshops right now, its just about the only thing paying their bills.
as well, they may all look the same as far as brands go, but there should only be 1 or 2 per town. the oversaturation of brands that used to make skateshops money is sad. inevetible, but sad.

for a skateshop to carry apparel from fourstar, choc, girl, elwood, stussy, huf, the hundreds, diamond, acapulco gold,
shoes from nike sb, vans, lakai, adidias, converse skate, supra, couple emericas & es thrown in.
wood from girl camp, habitat/alien, dlxsf, blueprint, cliche, 5boro, listen, stereo, enjoi to name a few

well, that shop becomes a destination cause you can't find that shit everywhere.
the time to diferentiate yourselves from the masses is now. shops needs to teach their customer base what is cool.
they used to do that 10-15 years ago. now, shit is sad & lame. there's a handful of shops that still do, but the overwhelming follow.
teach the truth to the young dumb youth.

the skaters want more core shops instead of boutique style shops, but why?
so you can buy blanks on ebay and buy everything else online or at mall shops.
people claim they want more core shops but really have very little desire to support them.
so i gotta ask, whats the point of shop owners cater to you?  why should they care what you think a shop should be?

My shop may not be the cleanest spot but we cram as many boards, trucks, wheels, shoes shirts and stuff we can in there, offer em up for a little cheaper than most, give everyone a spot to set up boards and watch a few videos or just stop in to shoot the shit. I come from an era where shops were a little cluttered and offered a good vibe towards anyone who skated. I can see the appeal of a boutique but they feel so awkward.
