4:3 Iphone footage
« on: March 02, 2025, 08:03:37 AM »
Just watched a yt video about aspect ratios about how he thinks everyone (non skaters too) should go back to 4:3 and pointed out how natively the iphone's sensor records in 4:3 but software crops it to 16:9 for no reason? Anyway, if you change the aspect ratio 4:3 when taking a photo you'll notice you gain a significant about of the frame as it uncrops the image. Pair this with holding the shutter button to start a video, you can now record 4:3 on iphone and actually utilize the entire sensor in the phone.
Not sure if anyone has thought about this or actively records clips like this but I think I'm gonna switch to this method of iphone clips

not gonna tell anyone how to film but what I do appreciate about iphone filming is that it's casual and fun and I don't have to think about aspect ratio at all. 4:3 in skating is mostly about the fisheye anyway

interesting. if you zoom to ~.6 or .7, it looks almsot the same though, so I am not really sure what I am gaining here?  you can zoom out to .5 and get it really wide angle which is even better than the 4:3
