I watched a kid try to kickflip off a kicker for an entire session. Barely tried anything else. Even tho he landed more than a few, he kept going for it. Probably more than 100 tries and like 20-30 slams. Not sure where that falls in the neurodivergence conversation, but it was wild to watch. My brain is just not wired that way.

This is my 8 year old. If his friends are around he'll usually just skate and do everything but if he's alone or with me and his sister he will absolutely try a trick 100 times and eat shit on like half of them. It's actually pretty impressive to watch his determination. He's been skating for a couple years and is pretty good. People always comment and say he's a natural and it's totally not true. When he wants a trick he will literally work on it for days until he gets it.

Reading back, it is admirable af. Almost every trick I know was hard-fought, so maybe it was more self-reflective that I should keep grinding out new moves. Keep pushing the boundaries instead of keeping with the go-to’s.

Glad to hear your son has the flame! Shit is awesome to see.
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

My only "quirk" is when I'm alone skating, everything works out and I land what I'm thinking and what I'm trying at the moment... then, at a normal session with friends and other people, I'm useless: no tricks, no nothing. Weird.

Less pressure on a solo sesh.
Even if it's your closest friends, everyone feels at least a little pressure to receive a few "YEW'S" on the session.

Always end the session on a landed flip trick.

Reg, switch, and switch front shut off the nose. Reg front shut off the tail.

Inward heel and big spin tricks off the nose

Allen bolts.

No inward heels or bs 360s on flat unless obliging in a game of skate (past ankle sprain and arm tweak)

Nollie first pop trick during warmup nollie 180s next

Phone in back left pocket and keys in front right

And this is the part that may warrant therapy: twin decks only. Which basically means there is no rear or front truck, although I do like to transfer them to the new deck in the same order. For the deck, if one end feels unevenly worn to the touch I'll put the other side down to start the next trick and sometimes be governed into trying to even them back the whole session. Basically anything that throws off the symmetry is going to be a problem. Even a small dirt smudge on one spot of the grip that isn't mirrored on the other. Of all twins I've skated it's rare to find one that feels truly symmetrical and my mind will hyper focus on the imperfections.

Solid black grip - no lines or markings
No graphic or colored trucks
white wheels

[close]

Agree super hard with all of these.
Black grip, white wheels, no exceptions.
I dunno why, but I strongly dislike black wheels on skateboards and they seem to be getting more and more popular.

I think skating black wheels is an autism trait.

I have pretty bad social anxiety and love skating black wheels u might be on to something

Also if I’m setting up a new board with old hardware the nuts and bolts have to be in the same spots as the last setup

I also find I skate better if I’m wearing a hat
I also witnessed Bobby D grab his homies crotch

Phone in back left pocket and keys in front right

Are you saying that you NEED this? Like it's better than not having a phone and keys in your pockets at all while skating.

Yeah it's needed. Have to have the phone in case I eat total shit and need to call someone for help if no one is around. To even that out I put keys on opposite side in front bc I'm paranoid someone will GTA my ass.

I skated black bones 100s for a while and I’m certified autistic. I get so down rabbit holes that I wound up realizing that bones 100s fucking suck and I still go on wheel madness benders every few months. Literally took time at the park to change wheels the other day because the sound of dragons on concrete hurt my soul.

Also, social anxiety is sort of an autism stereotype. Sort of like how being cleanly is an OCD one. I’m super extroverted and use that to mask in social situations.
that would be crazy if your skin was made of hammers.

Try to avoid but inevitably sometimes end up succumbing to,

-new shoes/ new grip
-over logoing. never wear more than one item of clothing with a skate logo...
-never wear same colour top and bottoms.
-white socks only when wearing shorts.
-i try to mind my own business, remain a positive supportive person but if you don't deck your rock and rolls in front of me, I will have to say something.
-no trick will ever be as good as it could be (either for myself or watching someone else) if it was done while wearing sunglasses.

I feel as if the shoes are my piece of allotted skate branded-clothing.

Setup is to be cleaned (not always thoroughly) after every session. Sit in the garage and use grip gum and take a microfiber towel to wipe off my trucks and bearing shields. I exclusively ride all polished trucks and like to keep them that way (other than grind wear ofc). Bought a set of indy hollows off of someone and have been reluctant to ride them since the baseplates are blue. Acetone is used to remove truck graphics but am not motivated enough to try oven cleaner on that powdercoat type finish for the baseplates.

Other wise the grip is always black. Sometimes it's solid, other times it has stripes... Whatever. Wheel graphics can be in or out so long as they're all the same. I swap their position like a tire rotation each setup to keep one from coning more than the others. Only bad ply color is light green and yellow.

Ollie hole gets goo'ed once, after that its either blown out upper or flat sole which retires the shoe. I wear shoes probably longer than I should but they do have the shortest lifespan per dollar ratio of all the gear imo. I use a lighter to singe any fraying on the entire shoe. Laces, stitching, and tags.

this one is totally counter-intuitive, but if i'm trying a trick on something, i won't do the same trick on flat.

e.g. if my plan for the day is to 360 flip the hip, i actively avoid doing a flat ground one while warming up and definitely won't do one between attempts. but for some reason doing a related trick is fine - like a fakie tre would be okay.

Also I have to keep a log in my notes app about each session. I do it it like:

Date (# of sessions this year)(# of sessions on current deck)
Park/spot
Brief synopsis about what I did or learned
Any gear changes I made

This helps me track how long things last me, it's interesting to see how many sessions I get in each year, and how long a setup lasts on average. It's sorta fun reading back through it to see when I learned something new or reached a milestone.  Also I keep a snippet at the bottom where I put the date for the last time I did something that's difficult for me. Ie how long its been since I've done a varial heelflip or tre lol. Been doing this for about 2 years and found it is helpful.

I really like this idea. I started lifting this year, and it's the first sport/exercise where I've kept a log. It's really easy because everything is simple and quantifiable. I've wondered how to apply it to other stuff.

I might start logging simple stuff like this for sessions too. Could be some interesting info!

i dont skate the same board more than 3 times but the older the get i want to find a way to get over this ocd superstition. when i find something that works and i like the less i want to veer from it. does anyone on here skate a board or same shape from a brand more times than once or twice? whats the most times you have skated the exact same board?

Any wheels other than white just fucks my mind. Same with black grip. If my only set of wheels were any color other than white i probably wouldnt skate. Non-white wheels ruin clips too haha

Once I put a truck to a deck, I can't switch trucks or at least the brand and width have to be the same if I must switch. I hate seeing the remnants of other baseplates and the difference in wheelbite marks.

I skated the DLX 8.25/14.38 as my main deck for...10 years??
