Was there a reason the last thread got locked or deleted?

Either way I'll again recommend going to see Friendship in theaters while you can

Yeah - I felt shame at my post count and was trying minimize my presence and then I realized what a Herculean task that was going to be to do it manually

I also recommend Thunderbolts* - suprisingly touching and handles mental health/depression well while being a upper tier action movie

MI:8 is a fun cap to the series and helps if you’ve seen the 1st and the 3rd especially.   There are kinda connections to every one of them except the John Woo movie

Really looking forward to Phoenician Scheme and 28 Years.

There's some movie with Leonardo DiCaprio coming out that I wanna see too, can't think of what it was called.

As a huge Tim Robinson fan going back to Detroiter's, I was really bummed with Friendship.  I just don't think his comedic sensibilities translate as well in long-form stuff, 100 minutes as opposed to 20..  I wanted to love it and thought the trailer was great.  I started checking my watch at the 50 minute mark...

That being said, I'm hoping to wash the taste out of my mouth this weekend with Bring Her Back.  Also super hyped for Weapons in August.

Battle after Battle.   It’s the new PT Anderson movie.  September iirc

Just saw MI 8 last weekend. I've seen most of the previous films, but I found the first half to be confusing/overwhelming.  I do prefer the earlier films with a mix of humor, spy scenes, and some light hearted stuff. This was a bit too intense, but the final hour was great.

Whatever Scientology witchcraft Tom Cruise is up to has really paid off. Still can't believe he's 63 and dating Ana De Armas.

I need to rewatch it.
We went to an early showing and the theater was packed with rabid ITYSL fans, which I am too but I can control myself. These people started cackling with laughter the second Tim Robinson came on screen, nothing funny even had to happen, they were squealing and snorting at every Robinson line in the movie even if it wasn't supposed to be funny.
It was like watching a movie with the most over the top, exaggerated laugh track you've ever heard.

Then
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
scene comes and it's fucking crickets. Fuckin' idiots, man.

I agree with you - the comparison I was thinking (since this was supposed to be part 2 of the last one) was this was like Kill Bill 2 which barely has any fight scenes after an insane amount in the first one

Was there any talk of "Mission: Stitch-Possible" or anything like that?  Did anyone see both same day?

Is the latest Mission Impossible movie doing the numbers it needed to do?

It had its biggest opening of the franchise last weekend, which is good bc no one seemed to see the previous one (even though it was one of the best ones) bc there was some Christian-esque Child Trafficking movie out at the same time slash it made the mistake of having Part 1 in the title.   This was also the same year that no one showed up to see the Fast and Furious movie so it was a strange time of rejecting long running franchises

Ballerina and Phoenician Scheme both scratch the itch if you’re in the mood for those kinds of movies, but I wouldn’t say wholly satisfying.

If you’re a big John Wick head, maybe watch the 3rd one again.  Supposedly Ballerina ties in with that

It's called "Lilo & Mish" and, no, I did not see either movie.

Anyone seen "Dangerous Animals" yet. My gf wants to know if it is scary...

Bring Her Back was great but also fuck that movie. Couldn’t pick up a knife the rest of the day lmfao. The new Final Destination was so fun too, highly recommend a theater viewing. I really only go to the theater for new horror, looking forward to 28 Years Later.

I kinda refuse to see that movie bc I’ve only seen it marketed on instagram, which to me is a quality indicator (like the second lead of Alto Knights being Debra Messing)

Also, fuck A24s IG ads where they have some “movie fan” giving their first person perspective on the movie

Is it obviously scripted or what’s the deal? I didn’t wanna watch Get Out for the longest time because the only ads featured interviews with randos outside of theaters and that shit don’t work for me.

I’ll try and find an example but I might have reported them etc to existence.   It’s more of a webcam testimonial from a movie nerd IG account superimposed on the trailer

Thanks to randomly popping into this thread, I’m about to see the Materialists. Been looking forward to this movie but lost track of the release date. Serendipitous, since I was leaving my mom’s place wondering how to conclude my night.
Excited to see an 11pm show at the drop of a hat.
AMC A-list is so worth it despite another price jump.

Past lives is one of my top X movies of all time.
Eager to see how this follows.

Her husband wrote Challengers so if those two don’t have a masc third in their relationship, I don’t know what to think, bc they seem to exclusively write about that

I surprised myself with how much I liked it.   Theater had a great vibe and soundtrack got me.   It was def in my top 3 last year(?).  Past Lives wasn’t for me bc my heart broke for white husband

Taking my mom to the movies soon - is materialists okay for that?

Ah ok, def will see challengers then.

Materialists should be totally fine to watch with your mom. There’s a brief makeout scene but that was hardly gratuitous.

Took my kids to see Lilo & Stitch today, fun movie and we live in Hawaii so it’s kinda cool to see a huge feature film shot here and it was pretty decent, I mean you probably won’t be watching this unless you do have kids but I enjoyed it for the most part.
