at this point, "doing hard tricks" (even doing "creative skating" for that matter) is just a way to mask the underlying pointlessness of many peoples' skating. imagine any other skater doing gino's tricks here. they would look restless, they wouldn't know how fast to be skating, they'd be too aggressive, they wouldn't know what to do with their arms. their entire body language would short circuit from removing any pretension to doing "hard tricks."

i've seen so many clips of grown adults skate that asphalt hip in new york where every fiber of their being is straining just to eke out some flip trick for no reason, even though it looks like dog shit. the sad truth is that even if they did do just an ollie or just a plain 180 it would still look like dog shit because they don't know how to skate. and yet gino can just show up and float a little one footer over it... it's no surprise why some might resent him for that

indoor soccer/futsal shoes skate good, and as noted, Gino chose those type of shoes in the early sb days. i skate in his samba shoe, and like it (it’s probably like the other skate sambas).

i’m a Gino stan, and i can admit a lot of that is probably an age thing.
with the folks that don’t like his stuff, i wonder who they do like?
