mannys suck unless going fast, what’s a good look down versus forward ratio to aim for

Would you bomb a hill never encountered. Just you, no local to be like naw it’s cool and bombs it first with you

On ankle, I want advice but I think I know all the advice. Being hurt sucks. Any lowkey hacks? I’m convinced this gonna help my tricks cause I’m thinking about my ankle in a whole new way. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Ankle hack #1: BEFORE I get out of bed in the morning, I do the spell-the-alphabet thing with my feet. Upper and lower case.

Ankle hack #2: I brush my teeth standing on one foot. Uppers one foot, lowers the other. Then I gargle mouthwash while standing on one foot with my eyes closed.

the manny ratio is a a sliding scale dependant on the moment.

i would bomb a long hill i had never encountered as there is room for powersliding and bailing. if it was a steep new hill, i would probably work my way up incrementally if i was intimidated.

i used to fuck my ankle up regularly in my early 20s - tore ligaments in my front foot 4/5 times, one time so violently that it sliced the top off the lateral malleolus bone (the bit that sticks out on the side of your ankle). obviously had to do physio stuff involving those alphabetic stretches and a bit of resistance band toe pointing and heal pointing. i think the major thing though is that I started wearing mid/high shoes and that has made a huge difference to my capacity for ankle injuries. I've still had minor sprains here or there, but nothing that's taken me out.

If you're thinking about where to look, you're probably thinking too much. Although It normally makes me more comfortable to look at my board, with quick glances at where I'm goin, I guess.

Don't think; feel! Worked for Bruce Lee.

-----

Depends on where this hill is located, I'm not goin down no main road the traffic will be fucked. Anywhere else hell ya I'd send it. Fuck it, just run out if it gets hectic.

-----

For ankles you can do this thing I do sometimes. Stand on a curb / step / wall with ur heel hanging off, then slowly slowly lower your heel down further and further. You're trying to kinda stand vertically on the wall of whatever you're standing on. Reaaaallllyyyy stretches it. And then put your heel on the curb and try to lower your toes so you're standing vertical backwards. Always helped me.

Seems like once lock into position, Everytime my pivot point moves (for me it's my hips), my eyes move with it. So in position, I'm looking ahead, lose my balance a little and pivot on my hip, peak down at my board. So on so forth. I'm saying this sitting on my couch having not walked since Labor Day.

I bombed a hill at the sand dunes in CO without checking it out first. Looked straight down into some minor vegetation. Went for it. As I got to the bottom, there was a little bump just before the vegetation I didn't see from the top. Probably the hardest I've ever been hit.

Pick up marbles with your toes and dropping them in a cup or onto a paper plate is a good one for rehab.

When it comes to mannys I think it has less to do with the eyes and more to do with the shoulders. Maybe it's just the main problems I've had with mannys, but when I find myself fucking up on a manny usually I notice my shoulders are too closed off. When I open up my shoulders (bascially have them face more towards the direction I'm going) I find my mannys are way more consistent.
I agree though that mannys (and grinds as well) are easier when going faster. It might be a psychological thing (being more focused on how fast you’re going / where your headed next as opposed to thinking about the manny/grind). There is also the reality that doing a 55-foot manny at 5 miles an hour takes 7.5 seconds as opposed to doing a 55-foot manny at 15 mile an hour takes 2.5 seconds, and more seconds you are mannying the more time you have to balance.

I have, and I’d do it again. It honestly helps me commit more to a bigger hill cuz your so scared and unsure of how fast your actually gonna go . Frank Gerwer said to make ur feet like the heaviest thing in the world and honestly it just always works
