Yep only one season and the family is definitely based off of the Fletchers, makes sense that Greyson was on the show.

Question for any pals who surf, are the Fletchers as big of a deal in surfing as this video presents them as? While I'd assume the video is probably exaggerating at least a bit, I'm curious how much truth there is too it

In a word, yes.
For surfers who care more about competitive surfing (wsl) maybe less so, but in the 90s they were some of the most heavily promoted in mags, etc. and one of the names that even non-surfers knew.

Honestly, not that much anymore, really. They do carry a legacy, but I doubt peeps under 30 really know much about them these days.

No doubt Christian did some groundbreaking stuff back in the day with his airs and stuff, but still, the whole infamous gnarly royal family narrative is a bit old and stale, to be honest.

Nathan Fletcher is in the pantheon on his own merit, regardless of family.

This was a weird documentary - besides showcasing everyone as some pretty fried outcasts, I didn't really get much out of it besides that Greyson had a massive drinking problem, which he got out of. It kept hinting at some past, but it never really went into it besides that his family has legacy in the surfing culture (but that has been told in every headline when the media has been writing about Greyson).

I mean what was the story they wanted to tell in this 10 minute segment? It seemed like a very long trailer for a documentary that would actually dive into their story (which I - a non-surfing Dane - really never cared about, but maybe there's a great story in there).

Greyson looks different on a skateboard than most out there - he's really flying, when he pops - and that should matter in today's skateboarding industry.

My kids call my dad by his first name. He gave them the choice between his first name and granddad and my daughter, who was 2 at the time and the oldest, chose calling him by name. It’s endearing when you hear it.
