Good songs with saxophone
« on: December 02, 2025, 12:28:38 AM »
What good songs do you know of with saxophone in them? I don't mean obvious genres like ska or jazz that frequently have sax but more like pop or other genres where it's not as common

Examples:

Always loved the sax on this last song from this album with Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo.

38:12.
Globes Opinion made me depressed for years.

this is fun...

edit: i know the English Beat are ska, but they blur the lines between genres very splendidly sometimes, and "Save it For Later" is one of my all time favorites in this way. also, the way the saxophone comes in towards the end of the Stooges' "1970" used to kind of irritate the young punk in me--i've grown up and it's correspondingly grown on me...

Joseph Shabason

https://josephshabason.bandcamp.com/music

Shabason has put out a bunch of good solo music, as well as with different groups of musicians, and played sax on the Destroyer albums Kaputt, Ken, and Poison Season

He also made a Welcome to Hell tribute/concept album

Colin Stetson

https://colinstetson.bandcamp.com/

He's done scores for a bunch of movies, probably most notably Hereditary, so you've probably heard his music in that at least

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Blistering sax solo at 2:47, memorable as a kid for me it’s crazy like.

Sexy sax at 2:59

Begins at 2:56, also a very memorable one from childhood, this was all over MTV for a long time it seemed.

Not a solo but the sax is consistent throughout the whole song which is an absolute banger, can’t believe it’s 50 years old, sounds better than anything being made nowadays.

1:53 starts a pretty memorable solo, still can’t believe Fat Bill used this in a Supreme video and it actually kinda worked.

It’s maybe too obvious but Clarence Clemons is probably the most well known saxophonist in rock music. Here are my two favorite performances of his.

the saxophones are part of a formidable "horn section" in general in Fela's band, but either way this song is just plain powerful and the saxophones have everything to do with it...

Quoting another poster without commenting anything yourself is the most annoying form of virtue signaling on the internet IMO. Just so lazy.
