I think this really comes down to parenting and accessibility. Your kid does not need an iPhone, all kids need are dumb phones that can only call and text. If you need the government to do your parenting for you, you probably shouldn't have kids in the first place.

You guys are focused on the wrong things. This isnt about the mental effects social media has on children. This is about pedophiles on places like Instagram specifically. Instagram has a huge pedophile problem concerning young female athletes specifically. The cheer/dance rabbit hole is gross. Its no doubt the same thing here. Its a 15 year old girl who participates in a sport where your constantly squatting in tight fitting athletic wear. Its a pedophiles goldmine. Any sport like that for girls has this problem. These posts end up shared in all sorts of creepy groups and places where worse things are happening to children. Im not downplaying the effect social media has on children or the insecurities or false sense od reality it can induce. Im not downplaying that. But in this this sort of situation kids are getting molested or worse. And the really scary part is alot of these accounts are ran by parents or a media management company where one of two things happens, they curate and create content specifically to illicit weirdos ie: they are fine with it and lean it. Or they are completely oblivious to it until its becoming actual problem in their lives. Like weirdos showing up at skateparks of a dance studio or some gross telegram channel somewhere. Most of the time the kids and even the parents have no idea any of this is happening.

For sure kids should not be using social media for the sake of their mental health. But thats not what this is about. Instagram just like roblox profits of pedophiles. Except Instagram prioritizes that shit in their algorithms. Its an absolute disgusting world.

If a child athlete or model or influencer has 10s of 1000s of followers on Instagram its safe to assume at least half of them are pedos.

I’m not defending social media, it sucks and is also harmful. Meta and Zuckerborg suck. It’s more so how the law was quickly passed without much thought on how it will be applied. You never know, our government may also determine on our behalf that online message boards are no good and ban Slap!

Kids having smartphones and social media accounts is definitely going to be one of those things people look back on decades later and think "what were they thinking"? I hate your usage of "nanny state" mainly because all the tin foil hat sovereign citizens use it haha. Spot on though about the rush to pass this bill.
