One of the best. To this day his Fort Miley cover remains one of my favorite Thrasher covers. I like the non cropped shot even more

Last night after seeing this, I found this Whitely tribute piece about Phil Shao on Chromeball, really enjoyed so I figured I'd share

I’ve never seen the full photo before, so good. I didn’t remember how beautiful color’s were in that.
Damn now I really want a framed print on my wall.

Stoked for this. My first videos were the older Trasher videos. Sponser Me and On the Road. He had a decent amount of footage in these and was one of the first impressionable skaters I ever remember. I remember getting the mag with his RIP a couple few years later and feeling super bummed

I always thought he was suppose to be an editor at thrasher, it would have probably been a different magazine.

Anyone been to the premiere?
I went.
Lovely little doc & an overall pretty standard deep dive piece for Thrasher.
I thought they missed a trick by focusing on how incredibly good Phil was instead of delving deeper into what could have been, especially w/ him being groomed to take the reins at Thrasher.
Would def rec for any fan of Phil Shao, or the late 90s era of skating.
A decent effort gathering interviews & archival footage by dude Schmitty; made for a “feel good” look back on a life gone too soon.

.

Sorry if someone else has already said this, or if it has been posted elsewhere but is this going online anywhere?

I am pretty keen to see it, as with almost anything from back in that era, I saw little bits and pieces here and there and only later have been able to watch a whole lot more, especially the Thrasher box set dvds and the Think videos, which I was going to post some links but thought best not to right here.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Schmitty posted that Shao's birthday is on the 28th, so prob will be up on Thrasher mag then.

Not expecting a Thrasher funded documentsry to touch on this but is it not either uncanny or an indicator that, if you consider his unfulfilled destiny, he's among three high profile Thrasher "staff" that lost their lives because of drugs (P-Stone being an exact parallel and yhen Phelps of course)? Did any other big skateboarding publication have similar cases?

I am bad with my history with older skaters. I thought he died of a car crash? Was he high on drugs or something?
