The “easier” the trick the more likely you are to have your guard down and get smoked. Even on a slappy curb you can get served on bs feebles if you slip into boardslide & your weight isn’t centered or catch your KP going too fast.

Watching the video and the way he fell he’s lucky he didn’t have a helmet on, if he does he likely snaps his neck and becomes paralyzed if not dead on the spot.

Yeah, I feel like a helmet would have made the twisting of the neck worse.

bet he's pissed, er... will be, that the clip got leaked. he stacks whatever's gnar for video parts, that's like someone posting an ender.
Also where was the real filmer and flash photographer? Nyjah was trying the most gnarly rail for fun? Lots of discrepancies in this footage

Good lord who gives a shit

lol I don’t care about the psl team in the slightest just to clarify - but jah as a human being I definitely do.

I am failing to see how wearing a helmet here would make it worse . I would need to see some science / crash test dummy demonstration to steer me in the direction of that I think

The more I think about it, this is kind of a pivotal moment in skateboarding in many ways

I am not sure there will be another jah. I guess there’s still Joslin but he’s not nearly as good in contests. Nyja kind of blurred the line between performance artist and athlete. Where going forward, I think the athletes are all going to start to wear helmets, and the artists will not. It will be more clearly defined as time goes on.

I don’t see that at all from the video, at all.

The thing that differentiates a professional is taking on a large obstacle and putting themselves in considerable danger (helmet off). That elevates the trick beyond the capability of the average joe and makes it video part worthy. Only a professional could land something down El Toro and walk away without life changing injuries. That's why they gain our respect

I wish I could gnar you for this, also what's wild to think about is I know no concussion protocol is gonna be followed with Jan it'll be straight back to benders + whatever other risks he prefers to take. if they take his phone away and just let him rest the better off he'll be.

Are you dumbass saying a non-professional could do what the pros do with protective gear on?! Ok dude I'll let you pick whatever safety gear is out there but if I don't see you flipping or grinding a 20+ stair by tomorrow you are the stupidest kook motherfucker of all times. That shit is deadly dangerous with or without safety equipment and if I need to watch slams like this one or read death notes on people like James Hardy I'd rather not have pro skating at all.

Oh, brother. I am here for Nyjah going low impact and destroying that game too, certainly hope thats the direction this goes.

I also hope that we realize our limits have been hit on this side of things: leap of faith, el toro flip tricks being almost twenty years apart, and certainly the big rail skating of Nyjah and Foy.

These helmets cant help for this type of slam. Maybe cyclist helmets could helps more. I once had a cyclism slam in road group and my head hit the ground almost as it happened with jah. The helmet blowed up, but I had no injuries in my head. The impact of the fall was too strong that i broke my bike handbar. I was in a 24 mph speed.

Helmets, including certified skate helmets, are designed to prevent skull fractures. Sure, beyond a certain amount of force, they fail (everything fails at some point). Unless you know what the fail point of a given helmet is, how much force Najah generated, and the relationship between those two, your are in the land of conjecture.

By this logic, no one should respect Burnquist (or any other vert skater) because they were a helmet. Also, no respect to Mullen for inventing the OLLIE or the kickflip (or the rest of modern skating) because he was wearing full pads while just skating flatland.

Also, please show us, exactly, in that clip where Nyjah "walk(ed) away without injury." He's a pro, right? I thought, "Only a professional could land something...and walk away..."

Your argument(s) fail worse than prayer.

The helmet conversation always feels like it completely ignores the culture of skating. For helmets to become the norm for pros, those companies would have to see that the culture (kids) wants that but helmets go against feeling cool, which is one of the major draws of skating, looking like you don’t give a fuck.

We know helmets would help especially in situations like this, but with how rare debilitating cranial injuries are for street pros it’s incredibly unlikely that helmets will become a thing.

So stop bringing them up.
