Upcoming Movie/TV Adaptations
« on: February 05, 2026, 09:46:17 PM »
Amazon God of War series with Opie from Sons of Anarchy as Kratos

Legend of Zelda series on Netflix starring people I don’t know

Baldurs Gate series on HbO just announced.  To be written by the guy who did  Chernobyl and the Last of Us series

I don’t think they’re making a Zelda series for Netflix. I think it’s just the movie will be streaming exclusively through their platform after theatrical release. Either way, I’m going to probably hate watch it.

They were once upon a time but I believe the current movie is completely unrelated and the Netflix show is dead

Yeah, you’re right. I looked it up after posting. They did have something lined up in 2015 but it died on the vine. Glad it never happened, but I’m still pretty upset about the movie being live action. I swear to all that exists, if they make Link utter ONE SINGLE WORD, I will shit on the floor of the theater and stomp on it.

I don’t think they pulled off Mario one iota but that still did amazingly.   I think it’ll be the same considering the director is pretty mediocre

Forgot to add Far Cry series by Mac from its always Sunny at FX.  Believe it’s meant to be an anthology series like the games

(The Tv ones are all ordered pilots so it doesn’t mean they’ll 100% be shows).

Yeah, the Mario movie was all spectacle and moments for fans of the games to be like “OH I RECOGNIZE THAT REFERENCE!” I watched it recently and it was a fun time but a whole lotta nothing going on.

Far Cry could make a great series if they do it anthology style like you say.

Ive heard rumors of Nintendo wanting to do a Metroid movie sometime in the near future… they just cannot help ruining the strong, silent protagonists they’ve created.

The voice cast were really my major problem.  Most of them didn’t work for me.   I’m not crazy about any of the Sonic movies, but I think they did a passable to good job casting them.

I'm with you on the voice casting. It has been very questionable and oftentimes downright awful. Chrisp Ratt shouldn't ever be the voice of Mario. Or any animated character. Matter of fact, just hand him his walking papers and tell him to stay the fuck out of the spotlight.

I really enjoyed the Sonic movies way more than I expected, tbh. Knowing Ben Schwartz is a gamer himself gave me hope from the beginning that he would be a good fit and I wasn't disappointed. Even Idris as Knuckles worked very well, imo. Gotta say, though, I'm over Keanu being in everything. Love him as a human, but he just plays himself in every role. I know that's been a major critique of his since the beginning of his career, but I guess I was oblivious to it unitl now.

I thought the Mario movie was pretty good, actually, but it has the benefit of a talking protagonist and a lighter story and the fact that they chose to keep it animated. Zelda is going to be much harder to pull off and I don't envy whoever's job it is to make that happen. They should've just done something animated in my opinion

Yeah there seems to be a consensus against him which is heartening.   I like the idea of half the cast, but then there’s like 50 Cent (which kinda reveals the quality of the movie) and wtf is Australian country musician doing as Orville Peck?   Is it just a mask thing?

Weird to think we’re getting a Mortal Kombat and a Street Fighter movie this year too.   Karl Urban as Johnny Cage isn’t my first pick, but I’m a little too caught up on Cage in MK1 being Jean Claude Van Damme

Jonny Cage was loosely based on Van Damme would have been sick if he was in it.

yea the Street Fighter cast seems mixed bag....Jason Mamoa as Blanka and Cody Rhodes as Guile?? Not see the chemistry in the cast, don't really see 50cent being in the movie much either

I'm automatically boycotting anything that has Andrew Schultz in it, fuck that guy

Karl Urban as Johnny Cage on paper doesn't sound like a fit but he looks pretty good in the trailer

The one adaptation I'm waiting on with baited breath is Alex Garland's Elden Ring. I pray he pulls that off.

100% on Elden Ring

Yea Urban fits if he’s kind of a washed up star.   There are some younger guys I think might be better (glen Powell maybe), but I don’t think they would do a Mortal Kombat movie

Andrew is the blight upon that film that managed to ensure I won't go to see it.

The Urban - Cage trailer looked like total over the top fun, genuinely looks like it will be a laugh so I think I'll go see that instead, despite not having played or paid attention to MK since the 90s.

I'm really hoping whatever Amazon is doing with Lara Croft turns out well.
I really enjoyed the Alicia Vikander film based on the 2013 reboot Lara, but am excited that this one seems to be harkening back to OG classic Tomb Raider.

The recent anime adaptation on Netflix was good…Lara has an realization that her and her dad stole artifacts from indigenous people and gave it back was kinda dope to see

Theyvd paid the fleabag writer so much money to work on this over the years that I hope it’s worth it.   I liked both recent adaptations too and was a little iffy on the casting, but I saw her in something recently that showed she’s become a better actor since game of thrones (which she was fine in, but I thought she could only really play that type)

The newer MK i was pleasantly surprised. It's good for what it is. I kind of dig the older cast. I'm also in my 30s so I'm a bit biased on that.

The first mortal kombat though... the GOAT vg adaptation for me. The scorpion/johnny cage fight is legendary. Even had the CD lol

Hahah I had the CD too.   Still think about the phrase “juke joint jezebel” to this day

I remember not like Street Fighter live action, but there was a kinda cool animated (maybe anime) movie at blockbuster a little bit after

There is an alright street fighter anime that came out in the 90s...Chun-Li shower scene was lolz.
There made a street figher alpha anime that I haven't gotten around to.

The really sick Street Fighter movie was on old youtube, came out in episodes from an indy production ( I actually found the Blue Ray at a thrift store 10yrs ago).  I thought it was the best live action adoption I've ever seen from that game

Maybe I was thinking of MK.  I remember there being a bunch Barakas as henchmen i was 10-ish at the time so memory is foggy whether I saw both or just one.   I was more of MK head because my friend had MkIII

yeah dont think there any mortal kombat japanese style animation.   I played MK up till about 3, I think I stopped around 4.

The remakes look fun with Omni man, homelander, and T2 boss characters but dont have time for them

That gives me hope that it'll be as visually exciting as the games are. I just hope this isn't a showcase of "how badass is Jason Momoa!" The games are built around the idea that Hell Divers are expendable and will die within the first maybe 10 minutes of landing on whatever planet they've chosen to "spread Democracy". If they don't lean into that and the obvious Starship Troopers angle, I'll have no faith.

Yeah, casting a badass action star feels like the wrong way to go with this
