3CCD vs 3CMOS for filming
« on: February 25, 2026, 07:49:23 AM »
what are your thoughts on 3CMOS cameras vs 3CCD?

Usually the fav goes towards 3CCD for its color rendering but the exposure falls behind a bit and the chips are easier to knock out of place.

On the other hand 3CMOS renders motion a bit odd in terms of action sports. 3CMOS cameras are more for studio or TV production. The colors are natural and the low light capability surpasses 3CCD.

I honestly think CCD is played out at this point. The cameras are just bad a resolving anything of high detail, they're pretty bad in low light (with some rare exceptions). CMOS isn't much better, waaaaaay too detailed, and rolling shutter is a drag. That's why I'm so excited by global shutters on cameras. No more rolling shutter!

@suckmadeck I'm not familiar but that's very interesting, are there particular global shutter cameras out now or coming out soon that you're interested in?

I believe it's called the Sony a9 III, if I had the money, i'd buy it today.
