I’m always getting slightly different gear because I’m curious about the differences. I usually have two setups, with one being my old one that is near end of life but right now my old setup is pretty toast so I’m just on my one main setup now. I was thinking I would keep it as is for its life but today, I was wondering how it would feel if I swapped my AF1s out for Thunders. I might do it but it’s been feeling good and I don’t want to deal with switching anything atm but will see if the itch to try gets stronger.

I never set up the same thing twice. I’m like a baby deer fumbling around the skate park every spring.

I usually have a couple set ups. I have one main board that is always the same stuff. 8.5x32.125x14.25 boxy ps board (I’ll have to go bbs boards soon since I’m almost at the end of my stack), venture 5.8, 58 mm spitfire f4s (used to be 99 now I’m doing 93). I don’t know why I ever mess with the formula. I don’t get to skate all the time with weather, work, kids, responsibilities, etc. I should only skate this board but with nj weather I’d prefer to water log a board I like less.

Then I have like a shaped board that’s a mix up of stuff.

I also have a rain / snow board that’s a 9 quasi egg on venture 6.1 and 58 f4 og classics.

Both. I have a ‘real skating’ set up that pretty much stays consistent with everything. Also keep shaped bigger stuff for doing whatever. Those change.

Isn't it more exciting to switch back and forth between multiple devices? Hahaha, at least that's how I feel. ;D ;D

It’s tempting for sure. I’m getting my groove on right now though and part of it is not wanting to extend the wheelbase on my setup any more so I might be sticking with AF1 for a while.

I've at least got it down to Indy standards and spitfire classics

But sometimes want to shake it up

And I can always return to the 'home base' setup

Right now I'm on 144s and 53s/54s, but I'm curious about 139s and 52s. I usually skate 8.25 to 8.5 boards but sometimes I wanna fuck around on an 8 or 8.125. I always gotta keep that shit 14.25 or shorter wheelbase though.

I also always have two main setups, so I can A to B shit and I don't have to sit there and take everything apart again. When all your trucks are the same, just swapping hanger sizes or having hangers with different wheels on them already is pretty handy too.
Right now I have a blue eagle with 144s and 52s, and a powell 8.3 x 14 twin with 144s and 54s. One's got different bushings than the other.

And I gotta have some kinda cruiser/filming setup

Sometimes I want to build some period-correct setups from like '86 and '91. Down to the truss head bolts and shit. I think that'd be fun and worth doing

I just don't want to change shit up too much anymore on my "try hard" board cause I don't want to get injured and feel stupid about it

Once a week I try switching from the 50mm Spitfire tablets to 54 mm Powell Dragons.  I tell myself I need bigger wheels for speed and to roll over crusty shit easier.  I will try them for five or ten minutes before switch back to the Spitfires.  I just don't like bigger wheels I guess.  I never do this with anything else but wheels.

Why not take other variables out of the equation and instead of switching to 54mm Dragons, switch to 54mm Tablets with the same duro? That's the only way to know for sure.

I've tried 52mm Spitfire classics and they feel like monster truck wheels to me, not just Dragons.  Lately it has been Dragons, but I go through this with bigger wheels of all brands.  It does make sense what your're saying though, I should try the 54mm Tablets next since it's the same shape.

If 52mm is too big for you, you aren’t going to like 54mm no matter the shape or duro.

There are 95a F4s that do come in the Tablet shape:

The downside of trying these is not being able to get more if you like them because I haven’t seen them get restocked anywhere.
