Coming from the half cab thread... I never owned half cabs or tried any of the shoes mentioned there so...

My first skate shoes were Nike Basketball shoes, something like these:

And that's all I skated in (some variation of Nike Basketball high/mid tops) until around the mid 90's.

My favorite all-time might be the Air Force Max CBs:

After a couple decades of skating actual skate brand, mostly low shoes, I have moved back to highs and it has reignited my love specifically for old basketball style shoes for skating.

First pair of highs I got in recent years were Blazer Mids and I liked them but just way too tight so that's what led to me shopping for shoes like I had back in the day. Came down to the Etnies MC Rap Hi or NB#480 High. I ended up with the NB and they are everything I expected, hoped for and possibly more. What else is out there that is similar or your favorite in this type of shoe? I know Dunks are one of the obvious ones but I never had a pair and don't plan on starting. Curious to see what choices people have like in that other thread.

Devin Bookers two pro models are pretty legit.   Don’t like the player, but he did a better version of what Nyjah’s first pro shoes tried to do

I don’t love the color but that design looks sick as hell! Seems like the sole is relatively thin too, which is good. Damn, I want to try those.

Had two pairs of Adidas Top Ten. Wore at least one of them for almost a year with barely any wear on the soles. Didn't skate them but I walk a lot and go through shoes fast just walking. Best sole going imo.

Those are dope, definitely some of the better designed shoes coming out from nike as of late

Side note: I feel like Nike SB/Jordan brand is missing out on alot of great marketing opportunities by not having more collabs/synergy with their modern basketball players, like those dudes are wearing dunks off the court why not give Cade a dunk colorway instead of run the jewelz or travis scott?

On subject the Asics Japan S (ive only tried the non skate ones) are an absolute gem, classic clean look, great fit, comfortable stable, durable, can be worn all day and they can usually be had for like less than 60$ on sale, high recommendation.

Like what NB did with Kawhi and Tiago?   Def think the athletes would be down.   Booker (not to bring him up again) was at the SM Bust or Bail and there’s definitely an interest crossover

Seems like Asics Japan Pro get a lot of love. Can anyone compare to NB# 480 Highs? What do you love about the Asics?

My main questions:
Is the toe box wider?
Is it easy to put on/take off?
Does it have tongue strap?

Like NB until now, I've never owned any pair of Asics in my life.

Yeah exactly, being the sport with heavy emphasis on style and its history and cultural impact it would be cool to be like "lets show some love to the game and its players who make our shoes what they are".

Id imagine SB riders and alot of skaters would be very hyped

Toe box is higher but not wider, way easier to take on and off and dont remember if it had tongue straps, i think it does

Theyre just really simple solid comfortable versatile cupsoles that you can either chill in or skate

Thanks, I just watched a review of both vs the dunk (all low versions) but it confirmed everything you mentioned plus the tongue strap. But after watching that, I think I'm good with 480s if I have to stick with traditional skate shoes... Or, finally check out the MC Rap Hi's if they are around.
