Need help choosing a fisheye
« on: March 05, 2026, 03:27:50 AM »
Hello, this is my first post here so forgive me if i am posting in the wrong spot.

I am currently looking to buy a fisheye for my Panasonic HC-X920 and have two options between wich i cant decide. Any help/recommendation is appreciated.

Because i am on a tight budget (80€ max) there are only two viable options that o found so far (ill attach pictures).

Number 1: a Baby Deathlense Opteka clone 43mm for 50€ from Aliexpress.

Number 2: a USED Raynox MX-3000 from a local website for used offers for 80€

I cant really estimate how good each of these lenses will work on my Panasonic HC-X920. The filter size on the Pana is 49 mm so 6mm wider than the Opteka clone. And the mx-3000 is wider than the filter on the Pana (58mm).

My fear with the Opteka Clone is that it will have too much vignetting because its smaller than the filter on the X920.

For the MX-3000 i cant really estimate how good itll work on my cam because i didnt find a lot about it online. Is it comparable to similar sized Opteka clones?

Any Help/Tips/Recommendations are appreciated.

If you're worried about too much vig maybe look at an opteka/Veledge etc version with a wider diameter (~58mm) and use a step down ring. That camera looks like it has a smaller sensor size than an HPX etc. So it will be cropped more. That Raynox doesn't look like a true fisheye. I'd get the widest lens possible to try first like a 0.3x. You may have to just get something and test it. Aliexpress may be cheap but sometimes they'll kill you with shipping cost. Haven't used this camera so I'm only speculating, but hope that helps

Yeah, i figured that would be the best way to go. The big ones are just out of my pricerange though. They are like 150€ at least. Or maybe there is some place where you can get them cheaper that i dont know about. If theres anybody thats got some experience with the Raynox MX-3000 or using the Baby Opteka clone on a slightly bigger cam that would be perfect.

I used a HDC-Tm700 (one generation before your x920) for years with that baby 37mm opteka.  But cropped to 4:3 aspect ratio. I loved it, super fun and light beginners setup, a separate mic is crucial tho; the built in mic is terrible.

It works fine with some spacers for 4:3, but yeah if you want to film 16:9 widescreen I think you need to find the bigger 58mm+ Opteka clone. If you watch eBay for long enough one will definitely pop up in your price range.

none of us skate we just make fun of it
