He’s 34. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retires once his Adidas contract is up. Or decides to focus on filming.

He's retiring because he's defeated skateboarding, there's no more tricks left for him to do.

I don’t think it’s ancient. I’m 34 and I can’t imagine having to skateboard for money.

My favorite part of these threads these days, is where people still think that anyone without a sponsor will still get picked up somehow.

Bastien is 40, released his best video part in 2003, was on a sponsor deathbed (cariuma)... and is now getting a pro shoe on lakai...

Sour is 100% much cooler in my book than any try hard trendy brand.

I don't think Gustav has any interest in being on one of these companies, neither is he interested about getting on a US brand.

I do not trust that rumor one bit,  but if it's true, i can't picture him anywhere else. Not for lack of talent, of course, but just because that's not what he seems to be chasing.

Mental gymnastics to be different and original < an unoriginal correct take. What about current Lakai makes it a good brand? And yes I've seen their tour edits. Competent video making and skating is a dime a dozen.

Are you saying that the “age out” ceiling hasn’t risen to legitimately insane levels over the last 30 years? Should Reynolds stop skating stairs because he’s over 35? I’m not saying Gustav is still in his spring chicken youth but he easily has another 5-10 years of extremely enjoyable footage in him. Retiring anything at 22 because you think you’re aging out is stupid as fuck lol

People on here have no original thought which is why they hate new Lakai. Whatever, more Rip and Dip shoes and cum stained sweats for me!

My unbiased, personal opinion is that new lakai is trash reserved only for new skaters, old heads that don’t keep up with skateboarding & moms who see them on sale and are upset because Kaden just tore a hole in the pair we bought him two weeks ago and these were on discount.

The real gymnastics are everyone trying to make the claim that the current iteration of lakai is any worse than it had been for the last 20+ years...

Lakai has always been a massive flaming turd of boring shoe designs, horrible colorways, and heinous collaborations. The art direction sucked ass too (rainbow checkerboard fully flared garbage) - This was lakai under Rick and Mike. No one seems to hold them accountable for being the reason lakai went out of business in the first place.

At least under the new management there is potential for an upward trajectory. The upcoming zenith shoe is far better looking than anything coming from the other core skate footwear brands.
