Mental gymnastics to be different and original < an unoriginal correct take. What about current Lakai makes it a good brand? And yes I've seen their tour edits. Competent video making and skating is a dime a dozen.
[close]

The real gymnastics are everyone trying to make the claim that the current iteration of lakai is any worse than it had been for the last 20+ years...

Lakai has always been a massive flaming turd of boring shoe designs, horrible colorways, and heinous collaborations. The art direction sucked ass too (rainbow checkerboard fully flared garbage) - This was lakai under Rick and Mike. No one seems to hold them accountable for being the reason lakai went out of business in the first place.

At least under the new management there is potential for an upward trajectory. The upcoming zenith shoe is far better looking than anything coming from the other core skate footwear brands.

He is, Matt Hensley retired at what 22? Gustav is long overdue
[close]

Are you saying that the “age out” ceiling hasn’t risen to legitimately insane levels over the last 30 years? Should Reynolds stop skating stairs because he’s over 35? I’m not saying Gustav is still in his spring chicken youth but he easily has another 5-10 years of extremely enjoyable footage in him. Retiring anything at 22 because you think you’re aging out is stupid as fuck lol
Just joking about how one point in the industry 22 was considered too old to skate and how dumb that was

Ternasky forced Hensley into retirement is the unvarnished truth.

Chromeball interview with SLB brought that truth to light because he tried that shit on Sal, too.

TJ Rogers is 34 and was on the bunt yesterday talking about wanting to go back to Wallenberg. Age in skateboarding isn’t really a thing anymore. Plus of all the pros out there Gustav could easily run another decade on just low impact fun stuff and still have 3 minute parts that are mind blowing.

'26 seems like the year of projecting age in lew of someone just saying their personally over it and/or over pushing it to certain extents (Non pros). I dunno, maybe its always been the case (Jason Lee interviews saying he felt done at 25 vs Omar Hassan still getting some)

https://www.freeskatemag.com/2026/03/19/sour-skateboards-find-a-way/

Basically, this Guy Tomas started an online skateshop - Junkyard-  in a very small town outside Sweden Gothenburg in which very quikly became biggest online retailer in sweden. They had a OG team with Pontus, Björn (Sour owner), EJP, a few more.. and me. Björn and EJP is from this town and was local at the time.

He started Sweet, that Björn basically ran, and when Junkyard got bought out and wnate dto kick all riders off, they ran off and started Sour. Its Björns company basically ut also a collective in sorts. Emil (Who is my old student togheter with Josef) is running the operations in Barca, after Björn relocatedto Malaga.

We have a premier for 3,3 tonight, will be fun. Now im curios if Gustavs in it.
