I got my MFA at a film conservatory in Los Angeles so my experiences might not be super applicable, but I think it can help work your way up a few rungs of the ladder with making valuable connections through peers, professors, or professionals you encounter.   But it’s no magic wand.   It may help you on the luck side of the Chance=luck x preparation equation, but you can’t fake the prep

I also have a friend who recently has spent a lot of time in Lisbon and she’s crazy about the place

Not art but 've two degrees and a masters.

If you have the money to dedicate two years of your life go for it.

Lol I wish I could go back to college again.

Go to Lisbon. You already know that's the answer. Great pace of life. Cheap as fuck. Amazing night life. A1 skate spots.

You are close to Spain too.

It depends on what you want to do with the degree or if you just want the experience. Or, want to try to immigrate to the EU.

Most Universities make vague claims about job placement upon graduation. Make sure you get something in writing.

I don't know anything about the field of art, but see if the institutions you apply to have a graduate research assistant (GRA) position available or a graduate teaching assistant (GTA) position available. They may help pay for tuition or at the least, give you a stipend to live on while in school.

I graduated with an MFA in creative writing last year. So far no job from it, though I travelled for three months and sort of missed the initial window to get a teaching job. Most of my peers are working in academia, which is basically the pipeline for a program like mine. I think most of us agree that it was worth the time and effort, and we all definitely gained a lot as far as the craft of our art goes. But I’d say you should go into an MFA (in any art form) with the idea of gaining skills towards your work that you can continue to develop post-grad, rather than thinking about any sort of monetary reward. One of my profs said something like, the MFA is a way to get the understanding that 15 years of work would give you in 2-3 years. That always stuck with me.

Would definitely agree that you should look at programs that offer TA/GAships, if the program isn’t fully funded. Lisbon sounds sick.

I think you're looking for the "Doms advice" thread.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Real doms don't listen to advice.

If the masters degree is the best method for achieving your goals, you should do it. If there are other, equally as good methods, do those, instead, because there are often constraints that accompany school (cost, quality of instruction, inherent competition, bureaucracy, and so on).

Masters is a professional degree. Theoretically you should get the degree somewhere that you plan on staying and working so you can make use of the connections. If that’s not Lisbon it may be worth going to a different school and applying for a travel grant or thesis project that has to do with Lisbon to make your way over there for a bit.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

Make sure whatever you're going for will still be relevant by the time you get it or whatever ridiculous amount of money you spend getting it will be just debt for whatever life experience you have during the time you spend getting it.  So many paths forward seem fucked right now.  Between my job experience of the past 20 years, research I've done, and all of the conversations I've had with people while driving Uber we won't be needing shades for the future
