All pro skaters should create an LLC, W-2 themselves to their company, and their sponsors can W-9 the LLC. The skater can setup payroll to pay themselves, and more importantly, get health insurance from the payroll provider too for the LLC, employees = 1.

This also fixes the huge taxation problem they face while maybe keeping them out of medical bankruptcy. No intention to be a smartass, I am self-employed and have given this some thought.

I would 1000% love to see this get a foothold in the industry. Skating is like a weird microcosm of America though...the people in charge keep the labor untrusting of one another because if they were to ever figure out that the problem isn't the other guy, and instead of being leery of them they organize with them...boom goes the dynamite.

You learn through setting up a business that, unfortunately and insanely, corporate entities have more rights, protections, and benefits compared to an individual in America.

Perhaps it’s just mid-arc capitalism but it is really fucked up. Anyone who either works independently or as a W-9 should think about an LLC. You’re treated better at basically every level in your work life.
