A couple days ago, I was thinking about how sick it would be if he made a comeback. RIP to one of the best to ever set foot on a skateboard. He was one of the few guys that made tech stuff look appealing to me.

I've shared that thought a handful of times over the years, just kinda hoping he was out somewhere in the world working on a part that would show up randomly one day and stoke out the world yet again.

Rip to a fellow North Carolinian. First pair of skate shoes I ever purchased from a real skate shop were the Emerica MJ ones.

I went to school in San Jose and I got so into Tilt Mode at that time. Bought all their videos. MJs skating in that era was special. Introduced me to a lot of music and culture and was just felt like someone you could look up to. Rest In Peace

Kinda struggling to find the words right now. One of the most talented and interesting people we've had the privilege of watching on a skateboard. His Yeah Right and Fully Flared parts are burned into my brain. Always appreciated his humor in interviews but he was also a great story teller when the time called for it. My thoughts go out to Avery and anyone else close to him. This one hits hard. We'll miss you MJ.

What a shame. Gone too soon. Regardless of his problems he deserved a lot more from skateboarding than he got.

I got into skating at age 11, right before the Fully Flared era. I still say "welcome to flavor country" all the time. He must've been a funny mofo to skate with and be around. I feel for his friends and family. Sad day for skateboarding, RIP MJ

Fuck man. As a teen who lurked the local shop I went in daily for my copy of fully flared around release date. There was a set window and dvds would show up someday. I went in every day to get that dvd and it was mindfuckingly good for the time. Mike mo, alex, biebel, guy, Koston. But Marc, holy fuck he earned that soty.

"Welcome to flavor country" RIP Marc, one of the best to ever do it.

I remember in junior high when A-team was super popular always wondering who Marc Johnson was because he was the one guy on the team I never saw in my limited experiences with skateboarding magazines.   Then on the last day of 8th grade someone brought over Round 1 to a sleepover and I finally got to see the man in action and I was hooked.

Modus and the Tilt Modes came next and I finally found a skateboarding that fit for me.  I never connected to the side of skateboarding that gloried in confrontations with security guards or civilians.  It always seemed too mean and too serious for me.   MJ and Tilt Mode opened up the side of skateboarding that was fun and goofy and weird and yet he could still be the best damn skater in the world.

Damn.  Just a perfect skater.  Glad it seems like things were on the upswing.

Sad news.

Some cats are just too amazing for this world. Marcs skating, creativity, humour, all of it, was always amazing.

Is it true?  Or did you read it on the slap message board?

earlier today I was watching the Lakai Euro trip where Biebel was talking about him breaking his tail and the immediately doing the bs 5 off the nose down the hubba. just such a bizarre and eerie coincidence.

he didn't have a bag of tricks he could do all the tricks by talent and pure will. tragic he couldn't figure it all out and was that tortured in the end.

we love Marc forever!

Marc, I hope you know how much of an impact you’ve had on so many skaters, and just how highly praised you were when it came to your skills and style. Though your later career was plagued with the Adidas controversy, I hope you know that despite that so many people still held your skating to such a high regard.

He somehow was at the intersection of making skateboarding look like the most fun thing and the most beautiful thing for his whole career.

The intro to his Hot Chocolate part where he’s saying, “if you can think of it, you can do it” actually changed my way of thinking about skating. Of course, he was the only person that ever actually applied to, but he gave a very average skater a lot of hope and inspiration and confidence to try.

This one actually breaks my heart. RIP Marc.

Goddammit. I loved that motherfucker. As a kid who loved double flips and that kind of thing was rad to see someone do goofy shit and make it look amazing. Of course it was sprinkled among just unreal hammers and some of the most incredible tech shit anyone had ever dreamed of. That switch flip nosegrind on the box at that contest will forever be one of the most amazing things ever done, and it wasn't even in a part or anything. This one hurts. I hope he knows he was beloved all the way through. They better put him on the Thrasher masthead too.

This is really terrible news pretty gut wrenching to say the least. I remember I used to see Mark at Mothers Market in Huntington Beach. I seen him on a few occasions and he was super cool and approachable and he would sit there and hold conversation with you like it was nothing one day and I was in there. I saw him and Mark Ppleyard in there at the same time and at the time I thought to myself what a trip nobody gets to see two legends in the same spot at once that often. I know this may sound like a total random stupid story, but man, this is really hard to digest.

Fuck rip to marc.

Just relistened to Louie’s bunt where he wished he saved all of Marc’s art that he left around the old Tiltmode house. Got a box from Business and co and marc wrote on the box with a little doodle and now have the same regrets of recycling it.
