One of the greatest to ever do it.
It is hard to put into words, how heartbreaking this.

It is impossible to put into words how shocking it was when the camera panned up in Yeah Right to reveal the flasher was MJ and he was on Chocolate. Impossible to get that kind of reveal now. I will never forget the excitement that created. Thank you Marc, RIP.

Wow I never knew that. Did no one know he had a part in Yeah Right until the premiere? That must've been a wild experience. Loads of his footage he's riding an enjoi board. I guess that would've ended up in Bag of Suck?

People have touched on it better already but in an industry with a lot of coasters and potentials not being fulfilled, MJ really exemplified what it meant to be a pro skater. I implore anyone who hasn't seen it to watch The Final Flare to see an insight into what he put in to his skating.

Fuck.  Was just playing Crest by Stereolab yesterday thinking about Marc’s influence during my later “serious” years of skateboarding.  RIP to one of the best to do it.

just watched his 9 club. heartbreaking.

also i timestamped "skateboardings black swan" for you here:

I was just recommended a video from the Nine Club and I thought they were going to do an MJ tribute but they were talking shoes with Ellington. How about stop with the videos and put something together to address the loss. So disappointing.

Mark touched so many people in his life with his silliness and his skateboarding.

Whenever I think of skating with my friends. I think of Louie, Mark, and Jerry. We all wanted to emulate them and wear the blue and black MJ 2’s—and do Art and just be silly and laugh and tell jokes while trying to grind a Safeway ledge. Halcyon days of joy.

relax. imagine the grieve chris, a close friend of marc's, must be feeling right now. the clips channel propably is on a pre-planned release thing. no body needs to put anything together, we have it all right here, fx. sneeps masterful memory screen of MJ.

woahhh, mj is an unwound fan? love that. i mean of course he would be. the guy had such good taste

Marc had a short interview in an old skate magazine (can’t remember which one) where he mentioned liking Unwound. That’s why I asked him about them years later

His Seven Steps to Heaven part was incredible. It came out the same year as Mouse and Trilogy (as I recall) and it didn't get nearly the same coverage or sales as those two videos. Marc's part compared to all of the best in the other tapes. His selection of Lee and Nancy's "Some Velvet Morning" was outstanding. He must have been 18 years old, 19 at the oldest. Just really advanced skateboarding and musical tastes. I know everyone talks Fully Flared, but that Maple part for the time was just as good.

His kickflip backside tailslide ender was at my Jr. high school. I actually attended school there when he did it. A couple people saw him do it and they told me about it. I thought they were lying. It just didn't seem possible. That was a ledge trick back then. The video proved me wrong.

He was really prolific back then. The NC video, Emerica, 411 parts, etc. were all around that time.

I saw Marc at Van Wastell's funeral. Alongside Ray Barbee, who was absolutely devastated, I recall Marc looking distressed and depleted. I mention this because it seemed like they both were in touch with the human condition. Were truly empathetic. I'll never forget it.

Clearly they have automated uploads and that video was in the feed already. When emotions are high people are quick to point the finger, not think critically or make things about themselves.

Keep it about remembering Marc.

I can see them doing something in time, but I’d have a hard time seeing Chris getting through a 1 hour pod or so about MJ, and in all honesty it might be a really rough watch.

C Rob has really had bad luck in recent years when it comes to his friends. He was so heavily associated with Robbie McKinley and MJ both who went way too young.

My memory might be fuzzy but I remember an ad hinting at that skit in Yeah Right! though I can't remember if it was after the fact.

Yeah, outside Louie doing that for Thrasher and I saw Jose Rojo sub-post on that (as people grieve differently), people like Jerry, Crob, etc, one don’t need to make a public statement but two should be able to do it on their own timeline if they ever choose to.

Just wanted to mention one more thing. Watch his Maple Rites of Passage then Seven Steps to Heaven part. The progression was unbelievable. Really cleaned up his style and took everything further. He was all of about 17 to 19 years old then.

That part was in a video that was sort of forgotten. I'm older than dirt and no one was putting something like Nancy and Lee in a video part back then. At least that I can recall. That was the best era for me.

RIP Marc. I remember scooping my jaw off the floor several times at the Yeah Right premiere thanks to you.
If you had demons, may you now rest easy without the tormenting.

Naturally, RB (no one) took the opportunity to make this all about him and how he's "furious" with Mike Carrol.

I think hating on Carrol at the moment over a logical business decision ten years ago in light of someone else's death is like, a very weird thing to microfocus on.
ok thanks

Rest in peace, Marc.
I'll add the Magnetic Fields to the list of dope music Marc got us into. Though he never skated to any of Merritt's songs, I remember reading a short interview either in Skateboarder or TSM where he mentioned the Magnetic Fields and I immediately had to borrow a cd from the library. The song Smoke and Mirrors always makes me think of him.
